Kanye West Unveils Long-Awaited Album 'Bully' at Los Angeles Listening Event
A smiling Kanye West was seen at a listening party for his highly anticipated new album Bully in Los Angeles on Thursday evening. The 48-year-old rapper, known for his controversial statements, finally released the record after multiple delays, including eight reported postponements and a self-cancellation following a series of antisemitic rants.
Apologies and Health Struggles Shape Recent Narrative
However, the star's fortunes may be shifting after he issued a public apology earlier this year for his offensive words and sold out a show in Mexico City in November. In a detailed advertisement published in the Wall Street Journal, Kanye explained how his bipolar disorder led him to lose touch with reality. He attributed his antisemitism to health issues stemming from a 2002 car accident that caused an undiagnosed brain injury, which he claims triggered his bipolar condition.
The advertisement, titled To Those I Hurt and paid for by Yeezy, described how Kanye hit rock bottom and sought help at his wife Bianca Censori's encouragement. He stated the illness made him detached from my true self and drawn to destructive symbols like the swastika. This followed a 2022 incident where he tweeted about going death con 3 on Jewish people, resulting in severed ties with agencies and brands like Adidas and Balenciaga.
Album Release and Fashion Statement
After promoting the listening parties across the United States on his Instagram Stories, Kanye attended the LA event dressed in black leather, wearing a leather jacket and matching trousers paired with a grey hoodie. His ninth studio album, initially delayed for two months with plans to finish it in Africa, was eventually shelved indefinitely before he released Jesus Is King instead.
In a bizarre turn, Kanye claimed in 2023 that watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street made him like Jewish people again, posting on Instagram that anger should not transform into hatred against millions. Meanwhile, his wife Bianca testified in court shortly after plaintiff Tony Saxon entered the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Legal Victory and Contractor Lawsuit Details
Kanye and his team are celebrating a legal outcome where a jury awarded contractor Tony Saxon $140,000, significantly less than the $1.7 million he sought. Spokesman Milo Yiannopoulos noted that Saxon recovered only a small fraction of his demand, with the jury rejecting most claims, including those for lost wages and punitive damages.
The verdict included $100,000 for medical expenses and $40,000 for past pain and suffering, but no damages for future suffering or punitive awards. Attorney Neama Rahmani stated that while it was a mixed verdict, Saxon felt relieved and vindicated. This case marked the first time Kanye testified in court, with Rahmani's firm being the first to push a lawsuit against him to trial.
As Kanye continues to navigate his career amid personal and legal challenges, the release of Bully signals a potential new chapter for the embattled artist.
