Karen Hauer Determined to Return to Strictly Come Dancing in 2026
Strictly Come Dancing stalwart Karen Hauer has made it clear she has no intention of stepping away from the BBC's flagship dance competition anytime soon. The Latin dance specialist, who is currently the oldest professional dancer on the show at 43, is fervently hoping to be invited back for the 2026 series.
A Champion for Mature Women Everywhere
Hauer views her continued presence on Strictly as a powerful statement. "It'll be my 15th year, as a woman of my age as well, I'll be 44," she explained. "It just shows a lot of women out there that no matter what age that you are, you can still be extremely physical, at the top of your game and be happy with yourself. That's important to me."
She passionately dismissed any notion that her age is a barrier, highlighting her current fitness and enthusiasm. "I'm extremely happy. I feel extremely healthy, emotionally fit, physically fit. I love this job," Hauer stated. Her commitment extends beyond performance to mentoring her celebrity partners through the show's intense challenges.
Unfinished Business on the Dancefloor
Despite her long tenure, Karen Hauer still has a key goal: lifting the coveted Glitterball Trophy. She has reached the final twice before, with partners Mark Wright and Jamie Laing, but victory has so far eluded her. This unfulfilled ambition adds a personal drive to her desire for a 2026 return.
Currently, she is touring the UK with the Strictly Come Dancing Live! show, performing alongside her most recent celebrity partner, Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, known as Nitro. She describes the tour as "very consuming and very intense" but also immensely enjoyable, with a nightly Glitterball still up for grabs based on audience votes.
Thoughts on the New Hosting Era
Looking ahead to 2026, the show will undergo a significant change as it welcomes new hosts to replace the departing Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. Hauer expressed confidence in the production team's choice, whoever it may be.
"Whomever comes in will be very special," she said. "I know they're going to be extremely special and they're going to be incredible." She praised the show's cast and crew for their ability to welcome newcomers and make them feel instantly at home.
While acknowledging the challenge of replacing such familiar faces, Hauer revealed a personal favourite for the role. "I love Zoe Ball. I would absolutely love it to be Zoe Ball," she admitted, suggesting that a familiar figure with prior Strictly connections could be a smooth transition for the audience.
Ultimately, Karen Hauer's message is one of enduring passion and capability. She aims to continue proving that talent, energy, and dedication are not defined by age, hoping her journey on Strictly Come Dancing inspires women everywhere.
