Myha'la secretly married after lockdown Instagram DM

In a heartwarming social media revelation, Myha'la Herrold, the star of HBO's finance drama Industry, has announced she secretly wed her partner Armando Rivera more than a year ago. The 29-year-old actress shared the news by posting intimate photographs from their nuptials to mark their first wedding anniversary.

A Lockdown Love Story Begins

The couple's modern romance began during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. Myha'la, who plays Harper Stern on the acclaimed series, previously disclosed that Rivera first contacted her by sending a direct message on Instagram. He was congratulating her on the debut of Industry in 2020.

"I had all this time to scroll through Instagram," Myha'la explained during a 2024 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. After a simple thank-you reply, she woke up to a series of video messages from Armando. Although hesitant, she checked his profile and found him "kind of cute."

His initial premise was a request for an interview for a journalism project. What was scheduled as a brief ten-minute Zoom call in 2020 effortlessly stretched into a forty-minute conversation. "We hop off, and I was like, 'Oh, I'm in love with a stranger. How weird,'" the actress recalled.

From Virtual Dates to a Secret 'I Do'

After a string of Facetime dates, the pair met in person in early 2021 near San Francisco. Myha'la described their first time holding hands as "otherworldly," and they became "inseparable from then on." Rivera later moved to New York to live with her.

Rivera proposed in July 2024 in the doorway of their New York apartment. Opting for an intimate celebration, the couple tied the knot in a low-key ceremony, with Myha'la wearing an elegant white lace midi dress. She confessed in her anniversary Instagram caption that only close friends and family were in on the secret, writing: "Sos if this is how you're finding out, promise we didn't tell most everyone."

The actress has spoken eloquently about their dynamic, telling ELLE: "When we met, I was like, 'I don't need you, I don't need you, and you don't need me, but I want you, and you want me.' We choose each other; we enrich each other's lives."

Industry Moves Forward

Myha'la's professional life continues to thrive alongside her personal happiness. HBO renewed Industry for a fourth season in September 2024, with the new chapter set to premiere on January 11. The show, created by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, will feature new cast members including Max Minghella, who will play a finance executive.

The announcement of Myha'la's secret marriage was swiftly celebrated by her celebrity friends and co-stars, including Marisa Abela, who commented on the wedding photos: "It's so mum and dad, it's crazy."
