Peter Andre Opens Up About Turning 50 and Family Priorities
Peter Andre on Turning 50 and Family Focus

Singer Peter Andre has candidly shared his feelings about entering his fifties, revealing he was initially "so worried" about the milestone but quickly found a new perspective on life. The Mysterious Girl hitmaker, who turned 50 just under three years ago, explained his concerns in a recent magazine column, drawing parallels with actress Halle Berry's admission of caring less about trivial matters with age.

From Worry to Relief at Fifty

In his column for new! magazine, Peter Andre wrote about his anxiety leading up to his 50th birthday. "When I was about to turn 50, I was so worried," he confessed. The former I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! star described how his mindset changed dramatically the day after reaching the milestone. "I thought it meant I was getting old, but the day after my birthday, I breathed a sigh of relief," he said.

Andre, now married to Emily MacDonagh with whom he shares children Millie, 12, Theo, nine, and 21-month-old Belle, discussed this shift with his wife. "I said to Emily that I felt like I could start caring more about the things I should care about, and less about the things I don't need to," he explained. "That does come with maturity, I guess."

Family Takes Center Stage

The singer emphasized that his family's opinions matter most to him. "I always care what my family think. That's the most important thing to me," Andre stated. He also has two older children, Junior, 20, and Princess, 18, from his previous marriage to Katie Price.

Andre's focus on family has become particularly poignant as he deals with his mother's health challenges. His mother Thea, who will soon celebrate her 90th birthday, was diagnosed with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's in 2023 and has now lost her ability to speak.

Planning a Trip to Australia

Currently touring the UK with The Very Best of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Peter Andre has revealed plans to visit his parents in Australia as soon as possible. "I'm going back to Australia at some point," he said. "I really miss my mum and dad so much, as well as my sister, who also lives in Australia, and my nephew. But for me it's mainly mum at this stage."

The Rock U Right singer plans to travel immediately after his tour concludes. "As soon as the Frankie Valli tour is finished, I will be on the plane to go and see them," he confirmed.

Daily Communication with Parents

Andre maintains regular contact with his parents despite the distance and his mother's condition. "I speak to my dad once a day, but I speak to mum twice a day because she is now unable to speak, so I like to reiterate what I'm trying to say," he explained.

He added emotionally, "I want her to hear me say that I love her more than once a day. I can have a long conversation with my dad, but with mum, I guess, it's sadly different. I love it, it's everything to me."

Sharing His Experience to Help Others

Peter Andre has been open about his mother's health struggles, hoping his transparency might assist other families facing similar challenges. "I recently gave an update about my mum no longer being able to speak, and although it can be really hard to talk about, I'm in the hope that it can be of help to others going through similar things," he said.

He detailed their daily interactions: "Mum has a combination of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. I FaceTime my mum twice a day. Belle speaks to her once a day, but the sad thing for me is, mum doesn't respond. Belle just babbles to her, she can't really speak yet."

Despite the difficulties, Andre finds joy in these moments. "It's the sweetest thing, and she's got this real love for her granddad, too, she's always running to the phone to chat to him," he shared, highlighting the intergenerational connections that sustain him through challenging times.
