Rob Beckett Steps Back from Comedy Spotlight to Support Wife's Book Launch
Rob Beckett, the well-known comedian and television personality, has announced he is taking a step back from his busy career to support his wife Louise as she launches her debut book. The 40-year-old star, famous for appearances on shows like Mock The Week and 8 Out Of 10 Cats, shared this personal update during a recent interview on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X.
Louise Beckett's New Book and Career Shift
Louise Beckett, Rob's wife of nearly a decade, has written a book titled Lessons From A Default Parent, set for release at the end of February. Rob explained that this marks a significant role reversal in their relationship. "I've got a bit of time off because my wife Lou has written a book," he said. "Because she took a career break to look after the kids while I crack on, and now I'm stepping back a little bit so that she can have a bash of it and spread her wings."
This move highlights the couple's mutual support, with Rob acknowledging that Louise previously put her own career on hold to enable his success in comedy. According to past reports, Louise worked as a history teacher and covered their bills for three years while Rob was establishing himself as a comedian with little income.
Rob and Louise's Relationship and Family Life
Rob and Louise met in their twenties and have been married since 2015. They are parents to two daughters, aged seven and nine, whose names Rob has chosen to keep private. While he occasionally shares glimpses of family life on social media, he typically avoids showing his children's faces, describing them affectionately as his "little best mates" in a recent holiday post.
Rob has expressed immense pride in Louise's writing, praising her on Instagram as an "incredibly funny, honest, and compassionate writer." He added, "One of the hardest things in life to do is put your head above the parapet and say 'hello world this is who I am and what I think' and she's done it." He humorously noted that he gets "absolutely rinsed" in the book but appreciates having a right of reply.
Rob Beckett's Mental Health Journey
In addition to discussing his family, Rob has been open about his mental health struggles. He revealed in a 2019 interview with The Guardian that, despite achieving professional success, he experienced suicidal thoughts. "I had all the markers of a successful person but I was having suicidal thoughts," he admitted. Seeking help, he underwent several months of therapy and has since spoken about improving his mental state, particularly after becoming a father.
In 2022, he told the Mirror, "I was not in a good mental state when my kids were first born but I’m in a better place now. Until you are happy and content, you can’t do anything else properly." He emphasized the importance of addressing mental health issues to find balance in life.
Rob Beckett and his wife Louise are scheduled to appear on The Jonathan Ross Show on ITV at 9.35pm on Saturday, February 14, where they will likely discuss her book and their family dynamics further.
