Ruth Langsford Expresses Concern for Son Amid Eamonn Holmes' Health Crisis
Former This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford is said to be deeply worried about her son, Jack, following the recent stroke suffered by her ex-husband, Eamonn Holmes. The couple, who split in 2024 after 27 years together and 14 years of marriage, have been embroiled in a contentious divorce, but Ruth's maternal instincts have reportedly taken precedence in light of Eamonn's health scare.
Health Scare Shakes Former Couple
Eamonn Holmes, the 66-year-old GB News broadcaster, was rushed to hospital two weeks ago after falling ill at home. He has been recovering with the support of his new girlfriend, marriage counsellor Katie Alexander, who has been by his side throughout the ordeal. Despite the acrimonious nature of their separation, sources reveal that Ruth Langsford was profoundly shaken by the news of Eamonn's stroke.
"Ruth is obviously concerned. They have a son, Jack, together, so she's understandably worried how it will affect him," an insider disclosed. "Ruth and Eamonn might have been apart for a while now, but they were married a long time. She's clearly worried about his health – and about how it is affecting Jack."
Background of Health Struggles and Separation
The split between Ruth and Eamonn in May 2024 stunned fans, particularly as Ruth had previously acted as Eamonn's carer during his battles with debilitating health issues. His mobility problems began in 2021 after suffering three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis, leading to surgery in 2022 and subsequent reliance on a wheelchair and daily carers.
Eamonn recently described his condition as "terrible to come to terms with", adding, "I've got this back and paralysis problem which has been with me now for three years. The thing is, nobody seems to know what the problem is so I just stick with it and hopefully they'll find a cure one day."
Ruth's Emotional Journey and Current Stance
Following the divorce, Ruth Langsford admitted to turning to therapy to cope with the emotional fallout. "I started counselling when Eamonn and I separated, and I'm still having it," she confided. "It is very powerful and very useful. It gives me tools to deal with things. Before, I saw darkness and was thinking, 'Oh my God, what's going to happen?' but now the fear has gone."
Despite her concerns, Ruth is expected to maintain a respectful distance during Eamonn's recovery. "She won't be turning up at the hospital," the source explained. "I don't think he'd want her to, either. He has a girlfriend now and they have separate lives. But family members are keeping her posted on his health and she wishes him well. She's not got a nasty bone in her body and she's very busy with work, so she's just ploughing on."
Family Responses and Eamonn's Recovery
Eamonn's eldest son, Declan, 37, from his first marriage, recently thanked fans for their support in a statement: "I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family. What happened came as a real shock, but Dad is doing okay given the circumstances and we're taking it one step at a time."
Eamonn himself broke his silence on Instagram, sharing a get-well message from his grandchildren with a note: "Got this first thing this morning, from my two lovely granddaughters, so now doing my best to get well SOOM!!" He has also praised girlfriend Katie as the "perfect tonic" in helping him cope with his health challenges.
Ruth Langsford, meanwhile, has expressed openness to finding love again but admitted the marriage breakdown left her "devastated". She reflected, "I just didn't think I'd find myself here, and I wasn't strong at the start. I was broken. Broken heart. Broken dreams."
