Ryan Reynolds Praises Blake Lively's Integrity Amid Legal Dispute

Ryan Reynolds has left little doubt that his 13-year marriage to second wife Blake Lively remains on solid ground, despite swirling divorce rumours and her ongoing legal battle. The Canadian actor, 49, spoke candidly about the situation during an interview with Willie Geist on Sunday Sitdown Live.

Public Support and Private Struggles

"You really see the illusion behind so much of this stuff - digital life versus real life," Reynolds remarked, addressing the public perception of their relationship. "Without getting into too much, I have never in my life been more proud of my wife, really."

He continued with heartfelt praise: "People have no idea what's really going on. I have never in my life been more proud of someone with that level of integrity that brings that with them with everything they do."

The couple, who wed at a former slave plantation in 2012, are parents to four children: daughters James (11), Inez (9), and Betty (6), along with three-year-old son Olin.

Legal Battle Background

Divorce rumours intensified when Reynolds chose to skip Lively's settlement conference at the US District Court in Manhattan on February 11. The legal proceedings involve Lively's May 18 trial against production company Wayfarer Studios and PR representatives Melissa Nathan, Jennifer Abel, and Jed Wallace for breach of contract and retaliation.

Justin Baldoni, the 42-year-old director of It Ends with Us, will testify but is no longer personally implicated after Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed 10 of Lively's 13 claims, including sexual harassment, in a comprehensive 152-page ruling.

Reynolds' Behind-the-Scenes Involvement

Despite a Writers Guild of America strike, Reynolds personally rewrote the rooftop scene for the 2024 domestic violence drama. His company, Maximum Effort, managed a controversial marketing campaign that tied Lively's alcohol brand Betty Buzz to promotional cocktails named "Ryle You Wait."

In private messages to WME CEO Ari Emanuel and agent Patrick Whitesell, Reynolds labelled Baldoni a "sexual predator" and "predatory fraudster," leading to Baldoni being dropped as a client. Reynolds also created a character called Nicepool in Deadpool & Wolverine to mock Baldoni, with Lively's Ladypool character shooting him dead in a flower shop scene.

Media Silence and Corporate Connections

Notably, major talk show hosts including Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel have avoided joking about the Lively-Baldoni dispute. This follows Reynolds' company Mint Mobile sponsoring their 2023 podcast, Strike Force Five.

Perhaps most significantly, Reynolds and Lively's dormant shell company, Vanzan, Inc., seemingly named after their hometowns of Vancouver and Tarzana, has played a crucial role. The lawsuit originated when publicist Stephanie Jones obtained text messages via a sham subpoena from Vanzan, accusing 10 unnamed individuals of harming the company.

Lively's Creative Control and Legal Tactics

Lively, who demands authorship on all her films, assumed control over directing, script, wardrobe, score, and editing departments by threatening to withdraw from promotion, with support from distributor Sony Pictures. She convinced author Colleen Hoover and cast members to distance themselves from Baldoni, banning him from the New York City premiere.

The actress has issued 107 subpoenas to content creators, accusing them of conspiring with Baldoni, and is reportedly attempting to block Norwegian reporter Kjersti Flaa from testifying.

Future Projects

Looking ahead, Lively is set to produce and star in Lionsgate's action rom-com The Survival List, though updates have been scarce since August. Reynolds has two upcoming films: Apple TV's comedy Mayday (releasing September 4) and Warner Bros.' live-action animated comedy Animal Friends (2027), both produced by Maximum Effort.

Throughout the turmoil, Reynolds' unwavering support highlights the couple's resilience, emphasising the stark contrast between public speculation and their private reality.
