Former Hollyoaks Star Sarah Jayne Dunn Appeals for Television Comeback
Sarah Jayne Dunn, the actress best known for her long-running role on Channel 4's Hollyoaks, has publicly expressed her desire to return to television acting. This comes four years after she departed the popular soap opera in 2021, a move that coincided with her decision to launch an OnlyFans account and become a pole dancing instructor.
A Controversial Exit and New Ventures
The 44-year-old actress had portrayed the character Mandy Richardson on Hollyoaks since 1996. Her exit from the show was prompted by a conflict with producers regarding her OnlyFans content, where she posted images in minimal clothing. Rather than comply with requests to shut down the account, Dunn chose to leave the series, embarking on a new chapter focused on her subscription-based platform and fitness teaching.
In a recent, heartfelt Instagram post, Dunn revealed her ongoing passion for acting and her current efforts to re-enter the industry. "I haven’t been on screen in over 4 years, but that doesn’t mean I stopped wanting it," she wrote, acknowledging the significant gap since her last television appearance.
Navigating a Return in a Changing Industry
Dunn's message highlighted the personal and professional challenges of seeking acting work again, particularly as a woman in her mid-forties. "But now I’m a woman in my mid-40s trying to find my way back. Not because I ever stopped loving it... but because somewhere along the way, life shifted, and my priorities changed, and time just moved on," she explained.
She described the process as both exciting and terrifying, noting that the entertainment industry evolves rapidly and re-entering it requires a different kind of confidence. However, Dunn believes her experiences have equipped her with greater depth and storytelling ability. "But maybe it also brings something more… experience, depth and stories that couldn’t have been told before," she added.
Clarifying Past Statements and a Direct Plea
Last year, Dunn provided context for her departure, stating in an interview that the decision was "taken out of my hands" and that her exit was widely misunderstood. She clarified that she never intended to leave Hollyoaks permanently when she joined OnlyFans, framing it as a typical period between jobs for an actor. At that time, she indicated she wasn't actively seeking a return, but her latest social media post suggests a change of heart.
Concluding her Instagram message with a direct appeal to industry professionals, Dunn wrote: "If you’re casting, creating or reading this… I’m here. And if you’ve ever felt the pull to return to something you love, go for it." This public plea underscores her determination to resume her acting career, marking a potential new phase after years focused on alternative pursuits.
