Sinitta's Shocking Confession: Marriage Served as Revenge Against Simon Cowell
Sinitta has made a startling revelation about her past marriage to Andy Willner, describing it as a "revenge move" aimed at her former on-off partner, Simon Cowell. The pop icon, now 62, opened up about her complex emotions and long-standing connection with the Britain's Got Talent mogul during a candid interview on the Suddenly Single podcast.
A Decades-Long On-Off Romance
Sinitta and Simon Cowell first met in a London nightclub in the early 1980s when she was a teenager. Their relationship spanned over 20 years, characterized by intermittent romances and a lasting friendship that saw Sinitta become a regular on his reality TV shows. Despite their closeness, Sinitta has now disclosed the underlying feelings that haunted her after their split.
"I was trying to make that relationship it," she admitted, referring to her efforts with Cowell. "His narrative was just be patient, and you'll have everything you want. I assumed everything I wanted meant a normal family life with him. And then he met the love of his life and had a child. Silly me."
The Revenge Marriage and Its Aftermath
In 2002, Sinitta married businessman Andy Willner, with whom she adopted two children, Magdalena and Zac. However, she confessed that this union was largely a reaction to Cowell's refusal to settle down. "The man that I married was actually a lovely person," she said. "It was a bit of a revenge move at the time, but it developed into something. But even during that relationship, it was obvious that there was unfinished business [with Simon]."
The couple separated after seven years, with Willner relocating to Hong Kong. Sinitta reflected on her tendency to engage in "retaliation relationships" as a way to prove a point to Cowell. "It would be, 'Well, if he's done that, then I'll date Brad Pitt, I'll date this model,'" she explained. "But always intentionally thinking we will be together when we stop being crazy. Because I would have been ready to go at any time, but it was like my pride needed me to go and have a retaliation relationship to show I'm not desperate."
Finding Closure Through Friendship
Despite her lingering feelings, Sinitta chose to maintain a close friendship with Simon Cowell's partner, Lauren Silverman, who is now his fiancée. The two women have worked together, and Sinitta even serves as godmother to Cowell and Silverman's 12-year-old son, Eric. This relationship, she believes, helped her find closure.
"So I did a lot of, I think, self-harm by trying to squash all my feelings," Sinitta confessed. When Cowell and Silverman announced their baby news, she described it as feeling like the "end of an era," marking a significant turning point in her emotional journey.
Sinitta's revelations shed light on the complexities of celebrity relationships and the personal struggles behind the public personas, offering a raw and honest glimpse into her life beyond the spotlight.
