Sinitta Reveals Why Her Romance with Simon Cowell Ultimately Failed
Sinitta Reveals Why Her Simon Cowell Romance Failed

Sinitta opened up about her lengthy relationship with former partner Simon Cowell during Friday's episode of I'm A Celebrity All Stars, offering a candid explanation for why their romance ultimately came to an end.

The On-Off Romance That Spanned Decades

The singer, who became a familiar face to ITV talent show viewers as Simon's guest during the judges' houses stage of competitions, first met the music mogul in a London nightclub when she was a teenager in the early 1980s. Despite their famously turbulent relationship spanning more than twenty years, Sinitta confessed she had always believed the pair would eventually end up together.

Possessiveness and Neediness as Relationship Killers

Sinitta told her campmates that while Simon was a faithful boyfriend who didn't mind her possessive nature, she ultimately became "too needy and possessive" for the relationship to survive. She acknowledged the challenge of getting hold of the busy television personality while reflecting on their dynamic.

"He was a faithful boyfriend. He wouldn't mind me saying it because he knows, and I was very possessive, but he kind of likes that," Sinitta revealed during the jungle conversation.

Competition for Simon's Attention

The singer shared a dramatic anecdote illustrating the intense competition for Cowell's attention, recalling an incident where she was burned on the shoulder with a cigarette while dancing in a club. "Some woman, gorgeous, model sort of thing, was trying to get to him," she explained, highlighting the challenges of dating such a high-profile figure.

Accepting Reality and Moving Forward

Sinitta expressed that while she believes Simon still loves and cares about her, she had romanticized their relationship beyond what was realistic. Seeing him now with his partner Lauren Silverman and their 12-year-old son Eric helped her recognize that "everyone really does have their proper person."

"I was the right person for a time, but they've just got this whole level of... that we, we didn't have," she reflected. "I genuinely believed that we were gonna get married. I'm such a romantic that I think it was gonna be our happily ever after, and then it wasn't, so that was pretty hard, but then you start growing up quickly."

The Aftermath and Subsequent Relationships

Despite their romantic split, Sinitta and Simon have remained close friends. However, the star previously admitted that her marriage to ex-husband Andy Willner was partially a "revenge move" following her breakup with Cowell.

On the Suddenly Single podcast, she explained: "I was trying to make that relationship it. His narrative was just be patient, and you'll have everything you want. I assumed everything I wanted meant a normal family life with him. And then he met the love of his life and had a child. Silly me."

Sinitta described Willner as "a lovely person" and noted that while the marriage began as reactive, it developed into something meaningful. Still, she acknowledged that "even during that relationship, it was obvious that there was unfinished business [with Simon]."

Therapeutic Insights and Emotional Security

Sinitta, who previously revealed she had an abortion during her relationship with Simon in the 1980s, said therapy eventually helped her understand why she had clung to the Britain's Got Talent boss for so long.

"Apart from my mother, he was the constant person in my life," she explained. "When I'm on tour and becoming famous and all of that, there was still him everywhere or him at the end of the phone. So I think I'd found a sort of security in that person."

Recent Controversy on I'm A Celebrity

This emotional revelation comes after Sinitta criticized I'm A Celebrity producers for allegedly "editing" her row with fellow contestant Gemma Collins, an exchange that sparked significant backlash from viewers. The singer's candid reflections about her past relationship with Cowell provided a more vulnerable counterpoint to the earlier controversy.

Throughout her jungle confession, Sinitta demonstrated remarkable self-awareness about the dynamics that ultimately ended her romantic involvement with one of television's most powerful figures, while celebrating the enduring friendship that has survived their romantic dissolution.
