Zayn Malik has candidly revealed how he has learned to release his "brash arrogance" and embrace the fact that he "isn't always right." The 33-year-old singer discussed his approach to handling disagreements in a recent interview, which emerges just days after allegations surfaced that he punched former One Direction bandmate Louis Tomlinson, 34, during the filming of a Netflix documentary.
Embracing Self-Love and Openness
Speaking on the Zach Sang Show to promote his new album Konnakol, Zayn explained that cultivating self-love has significantly improved his ability to navigate opposing viewpoints. He elaborated, "It allows you to love everybody, not just in a romantic sense, but with friends and people you converse with. They can share their ideas, and you become much more receptive to what they're saying."
Zayn emphasized the importance of accepting differing opinions, stating, "You don't always have to agree. Someone can have a completely different opinion to you, and that's fine. We're not all the same. It's cool. Also, some people undervalue the ability to not be right. You don't always have to be right."
A Shift in Perspective Over Time
Reflecting on his personal evolution, Zayn noted, "I don't know the specific moment I realised that, but definitely in the last few years. Like, you want to be right... that brash arrogance and stuff. But as you get older, I don't know if it's the same for everybody, but it chills out a bit. It subsides, that inner voice."
Alleged Altercation with Louis Tomlinson
This introspective discussion comes amid reports of a physical confrontation between Zayn and Louis. The pair had reportedly signed a multi-million pound deal to travel across the US for a Netflix documentary, where they would discuss their lives and reminisce about their time in One Direction.
However, according to sources, the series has been scrapped following an alleged altercation in which Zayn punched Louis in the face, resulting in the latter suffering a concussion and requiring medical treatment. The incident is said to have occurred six months ago, and the two have reportedly not spoken since.
Louis appeared to confirm tensions by unfollowing Zayn on Instagram, while Zayn still follows Louis among his 17 Instagram connections. Representatives for both artists, as well as Netflix and Campfire Studios, have been contacted for comment but have not yet responded publicly.
Fatherhood and Positive Outlook
Elsewhere in the interview, Zayn shared rare insights into fatherhood, describing how it has transformed his perspective. He co-parents his five-year-old daughter Khai with model Gigi Hadid. Zayn recalled, "When I saw her the first time was an amazing thing—when she was born and I held her in my hands. It just felt like, wow, all my stuff doesn't really mean anything. So insignificant."
He added, "Look at what life is, you know? I just stopped looking at things negatively and was like, I just want to be happy for this other human being and be a good role model for her."
Upcoming Tour and Health Concerns
Zayn is gearing up for his most extensive solo tour to date, with 31 dates scheduled worldwide. The tour will see him headline arenas and stadiums across North America, South America, Mexico, and the UK, marking a significant milestone for the singer who has previously cancelled live performances due to "extreme anxiety."
The tour kicks off on 12th May 2026 at Manchester's AO Arena, with stops in Glasgow and Birmingham before concluding his European shows with a performance at London's The O2 on 23rd May. Additional dates include Los Angeles, Mexico City, São Paulo, and a finale on 20th November in Miami at the Kaseya Center.
However, last week, Zayn shared a concerning hospital photo on Instagram, revealing he is "still recovering" from an undisclosed illness. This led to the postponement of a special One Night Only show at Circuit, Kingston, originally set for 13th April, where he was to perform tracks from his new album KONNAKOL.
