Zion Foster has publicly described his young daughter as a "fighter" in an emotional social media update, following his recent separation from former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson. The musician, aged 26, shared a touching video and message dedicated to his child, coming just days after news broke of the couple's split.
Heartfelt Instagram Post Amid Personal Turmoil
On Tuesday evening, Zion Foster took to Instagram to post a new video featuring his daughter Story, accompanied by a caption that read: "Proud of you always, Story bear, my lil fighter." In the background of the footage, Zion's voice can be heard encouraging his daughter, saying: "Are you gonna push up? Are you gonna push up?" as she lay on her baby play mat.
This public display of affection and pride comes during a period of significant personal change for the family. Jesy Nelson and Zion Foster welcomed twin daughters, Ocean and Story, in May 2025, but separated shortly after it was revealed that both children had been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA).
Campaigning for Change in Newborn Screening
Jesy Nelson has been actively campaigning for SMA1 screenings to be included in the standard newborn blood spot test, commonly known as the heel prick test, after learning that her twins will likely never be able to walk. The condition affects motor neurons and leads to progressive muscle weakness.
The Mirror newspaper is supporting her campaign for change, which gained significant attention when Jesy appeared on This Morning to discuss the issue with Health Secretary Wes Streeting. During the emotional interview, Jesy broke down in tears while explaining the impact she hopes to have on helping other parents avoid similar late diagnoses.
Jesy told the camera and the Health Secretary: "I know it really impacted you because it's when you see it in real life and you see the severity of it, and it's literally a case of your child could walk or your child could be in a wheelchair." She added passionately: "I feel so passionately about this, because no parent should have to go through that."
United Focus on Co-Parenting
Despite their separation, both parents remain committed to providing the best possible care for their daughters. A source close to the couple told The Sun: "She and Zion remain friends and are fully focused on their daughters. They are fully united in co-parenting. Their priority continues to be the well-being of their daughters."
Before their breakup was publicly reported, Zion had praised Jesy's strength on social media, calling her "the definition of a superwoman" and adding "we are all one." He also used his platform to advocate for change, writing: "Reality is, it's indefensible and needs to be changed, simple. Test kids at birth for SMA in the UK now that there are revolutionary treatments available."
Relationship History and Future Priorities
The couple's split comes just months after they happily announced their engagement to fans. Their relationship had experienced previous challenges, with an initial breakup in 2022 attributed by sources to their demanding schedules and the eight-year age difference between them.
An insider explained at the time: "Jesy is in a different head space from Zion these days. She is after all a few years older than Zion and has a different way of looking at things these days."
Jesy has spoken openly about grieving the life she imagined having with her children, expressing her desire to be their mother rather than their nurse as she navigates the challenges ahead. Both parents have shared their hopes of giving their daughters the best quality of life possible, despite the difficulties presented by their medical condition.
The newly single star has emphasized her determination to continue campaigning for SMA screening reform, hoping that Health Secretary Wes Streeting will "put his money where his mouth is" and accelerate the implementation of newborn screening for the condition across the UK.
