Alison Hammond, the beloved This Morning host, has secured a major new role on ITV as the presenter of the revived gameshow Name That Tune. According to Alison, the show is set to be "bigger, louder, and more feel-good than ever."
A Modern Take on a Classic
The musical gameshow originally aired from 1976 to 1987, hosted by Tom O'Connor and later Lionel Blair, where contestants attempted to identify songs from clues and notes. The new iteration will receive a contemporary makeover, featuring a glitzy production and a dedicated band to perform the tracks. It is expected to air on Saturday nights, which may explain why the 51-year-old This Morning star claimed she would be too busy to host BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing.
Alison's Excitement
Alison told TV Zone UK: "As a massive music lover, my biggest challenge as a host will be trying not to grab the mic and start singing along when one of my all-time favourite tunes comes on! And trust me… that will take serious self control! I grew up absolutely loving the original show so being part of this now feels like a real full-circle moment. I cannot wait to get into the studio, put the contestants through their paces, and see who really knows their music. And let me tell you, being joined by the super-talented Name That Tune band, who’ll be belting out some of the biggest songs on the planet in their own unique, electric style… oh, it’s going to be next-level. Bigger, louder, and more feel-good than ever this is going to be EPIC!"
ITV's Strategy
A TV insider commented: "Although execs know she is free to take up offers from other channels, Alison is very much seen as an ITV face, and the channel are keen to maintain that link. She already hosts This Morning and For the Love of Dogs for the channel, but this would arguably be her biggest gig to date with ITV. It remains to be seen exactly when it would air, but after being touted as a host for Strictly, this show might end up seeing her go head-to-head with it."
This marks the latest vintage ITV show being revived with new hosts, following Bullseye with Freddie Flintoff and Wheel of Fortune presented by Graham Norton. The Mirror has approached ITV for further comment.
