The Rolling Stones have officially announced their upcoming studio album, 'Foreign Tongues', set for release on July 10. Alongside the announcement, the legendary band dropped a new single titled 'In The Stars'.
Album Details and Guest Appearances
The new record follows 2023's 'Hackney Diamonds', which was their first album of original material in 18 years. 'Foreign Tongues' will feature a special posthumous appearance from drummer Charlie Watts, taken from one of his final recording sessions before his death in 2021. Additional guests include Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Mick Jagger expressed his enthusiasm in a statement: "I love doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis. It was a very intense few weeks recording Foreign Tongues. We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could. I like the room there as it’s not too big so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone."
Collaboration with Producer Andrew Watt
The band continued their collaboration with Oscar-winning producer Andrew Watt, known for his work with Post Malone and Justin Bieber, who also produced 'Hackney Diamonds'.
Marketing Campaign and Teasers
Speculation about the new album had been building for weeks. It began with mysterious posters around London bearing the band's pseudonym 'The Cockroaches', along with a QR code leading to a sign-up page. Fans who registered received a confirmation from Universal Music, the Stones' label. This eventually led to a white-label vinyl release of the track 'Rough and Twisted' under The Cockroaches name.
In the week before the official announcement, billboards featuring the band's iconic mouth and tongue logo appeared in major cities worldwide, displaying the words 'Foreign Tongues' in various languages, such as 'Fremmede Sprog', 'Vreemde Tongen', 'Dayuhang Dila', '외국어', and 'Langues Étrangères'. The band's website was also updated with video clips resembling surveillance footage of their studio sessions.
On Sunday, the band shared a slide puzzle graphic that fans correctly identified as the album artwork—a cartoonish collage of the members' faces. A 10-second video clip also teased a new song.
Celebratory Event
To mark the announcement, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood are set to attend an album announcement event in Brooklyn, New York, on Tuesday afternoon.
'Foreign Tongues' promises to be another milestone for the iconic rock band, blending their classic sound with fresh collaborations and a touch of mystery.
