Just two weeks after joining Instagram, the trend-setting tween used her Instagram Stories to debut a striking new piece of jewellery: a diamond-encrusted skull-and-crossbones pendant.
A Glittering Display of Personal Style
In a brief video set to Bktherula's song 'Light', North proudly showcased the intricate pendant, which featured glittering sapphires for eyes and hung from a heavy chain adorned with fang-like daggers. She credited jeweller Alex Moss for the piece, which she wore with a blue and black patterned top, her signature turquoise hair, and a matching set of bangles.
The pendant is estimated to be worth at least $5,000 (£4,000), based on similar items on the jeweller's website. For the young style icon, however, this is a modest sum; reports suggest North herself has a net worth of approximately $375 million, largely from trust funds established by her famous parents.
Continuing a Trend of Lavish Accessories
This latest share follows closely on the heels of another jewellery reveal. Just a week prior, North flashed a custom-made set of 'shark teeth' grillz created by Houston-based jeweller Johnny Dang. Dang reposted the images, describing his work as '1/1 shark grillz w/ baguette' and welcoming North to the '#flawlessgang'.
Her Instagram account, which notes it is 'managed by parents', has rapidly gained traction, amassing over 800,000 followers since its debut. While impressive, she still has some way to go to catch her mother, who boasts approximately 354 million followers.
Facing Criticism and a Mother's Defence
North's distinctive and often mature fashion choices have not been without controversy. In early December, she displayed a dermal finger piercing during an outing in Rome, prompting criticism from some fans. The pre-teen clapped back with a video lip-syncing to lyrics that asked, 'Why are you crying? How old are you? Just pull it together,' captioning it, 'This is for everyone that's mad over a finger piercing.'
Kim Kardashian has consistently defended her daughter's right to self-expression. Speaking on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast, the reality star explained the challenges of parenting a fashion-forward tween. 'It’s really hard and it’s really interesting because all the kids are wearing the same things,' Kardashian told host Alex Cooper. 'But then my daughter tries to wear it and then I’m like, "okay, we’re never wearing that again." Unfortunately, we made that mistake in front of the whole world.'
Kardashian emphasised North's creativity and good nature, stating she would never stifle it. 'I just think anyone that’s raising kids, especially four kids by myself, I’m doing the best that I can,' she added, appealing for a little grace from the public.
