Channel Seven Adelaide Reporter Mitchell Sariovski Leaves Journalism for Pancake Franchise
Channel Seven Reporter Mitchell Sariovski Swaps News for Pancakes

Mitchell Sariovski, a dedicated news reporter at Channel Seven Adelaide, has made the surprising decision to hang up his microphone at the end of April, shifting his focus entirely to a new career in the hospitality industry. The 28-year-old father of two announced this unexpected career transition on social media this Wednesday, marking the end of nearly five years with the station.

A Dream Realised and Now Left Behind

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Sariovski reflected on his journey, stating, 'From a kid with a camera to a reporter at 7News – this is my final sign-off.' He revealed that his passion for broadcast news began in childhood, with a teenage sacrifice of selling a car to buy his first camera. 'That was my first real step into the world I wanted to be part of – and I poured everything I had into it,' he explained.

His path was not without obstacles. Fifteen years ago, as a work experience kid at Channel 7 Adelaide, he was told he was too over-enthusiastic and not to return. 'I left thinking the dream had ended before it even began. But it didn't,' Sariovski shared. He eventually found his way back, becoming a reporter and embracing the stories, pressure, chaos, and people that made the role fulfilling. 'It's hard to leave the dream behind… but it's time,' he admitted.

Focusing on Family and a New Venture

Now, Sariovski is redirecting his energy towards his family – his fiancé Lauren and their two sons, Jett and Arlo – and his franchise with The Original Pancake Kitchen, a well-known restaurant chain in his hometown of Adelaide. According to his LinkedIn profile, he bought into the franchise in December 2024. The brand, an Adelaide institution since 1965, operates four restaurants in the city, including locations in the CBD and Port Adelaide.

In his announcement, Sariovski thanked South Australian viewers for their support, adding, 'I'm still on your screen for now – but at the end of the month, it's me signing off. After that… the only deadlines will be pancakes on plates, not news on screens.'

Support from Colleagues and Followers

The news prompted an outpouring of support on social media. Jasmin Teurlings from Seven News Adelaide commented, 'Go well, Mitch. No one quite does a chase like you do. Well done on an incredible chapter.' Other followers expressed their sentiments, with one saying, 'We'll miss seeing you on the TV. You have been an excellent reporter. Wishing you all the best,' and another adding, 'You will be missed.'

A Career Spanning Multiple Networks

Sariovski's journalism career began in 2017 as a reporter at NBN Television in Lismore. He later joined Seven as a reporter in Lismore, then moved to Albury to serve as a police reporter for the network. After a brief stint with Nine, he returned to Seven in 2021 and has been working as an Adelaide-based reporter since, building a reputation for his dedication and skill in the field.

This career change highlights a significant shift from the fast-paced world of news reporting to the entrepreneurial challenges of the hospitality sector, driven by personal priorities and new opportunities.
