On Tuesday, filming commenced in Los Angeles for the upcoming Netflix comedy One Attempt Remaining, starring Jennifer Garner and John Cena as a divorced couple forced to reunite. The plot centers on their characters' desperate attempt to uncover a lost $35 million cryptocurrency fortune amassed during a cruise, with a tight deadline adding to the comedic tension.
On-Set Appearances and Character Details
The 53-year-old Garner, an alum of the series Alias, was spotted on the LA set clutching her script and wearing a distinctive reddish-brown wig adorned with thick blonde highlights as she entered a trailer. Meanwhile, the 48-year-old retired WWE wrestler John Cena showcased his muscular physique in an all-black outfit, embodying a man who must recall an old password within just 48 hours before it expires forever.
Behind the Scenes Talent
The film is being directed by Kay Cannon, known for her work on Cinderella (2021) and Blockers (2018), as well as writing the Pitch Perfect trilogy and its spin-off show. Adding to the creative team, Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy is overseeing the production. The cast also includes SNL alum Kate McKinnon and actress Aimee Carerro from Your Friends & Neighbors.
Garner's Upcoming Projects and Personal Life
Jennifer Garner is set to appear on BBC One's The Graham Norton Show this Thursday. In her personal life, she and her second ex-husband Ben Affleck will celebrate their son Samuel's 14th birthday this Friday. The former couple, who starred together in Daredevil, share two daughters—Violet, 20, and Fin, 17—and have maintained separate households since their divorce in 2018.
In a recent interview with Bustle, Garner reflected on co-parenting, stating, 'I become mom and dad; he becomes dad and mom. You kind of can't help it, right? Because you don't have the benefit of both sides of the yin and yang being in the same house. And so you have to have a bit of both in the way that you parent.' She added that while there is a sense of loss, there is also something gained in the arrangement.
Current and Future Roles
Garner currently executive produces and stars as woodworker Hannah Hall in the second season of the thriller The Last Thing He Told Me, which airs Fridays on Apple TV+. Her other upcoming projects include the Netflix holiday comedy Mrs. Claus, the true-crime film Fruitcake directed by Max Winkler, and the Peacock drama The Five-Star Weekend. Additionally, on February 6, Garner and her co-founders of Once Upon a Farm took their children's food company public as 'OFRM' on the New York Stock Exchange.
John Cena's Film Ventures
Meanwhile, John Cena will next be seen as lawyer Buddy Crane in the live-action and animated comedy Coyote vs. Acme, set for release in US and UK theaters on August 28. The Warner Bros. Pictures film, inspired by Looney Tunes, features a budget of $72 million and includes cast members such as Will Forte, Lana Condor, and Luis Guzmán.
Cena is also slated to portray former soldier Sean in the action-adventure comedy Matchbox: The Movie, premiering on Apple TV+ on October 9. Based on the Mattel toy brand, the film stars Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, and Danai Gurira, further expanding Cena's diverse portfolio in the entertainment industry.
