In a new interview with GQ for their latest Hype feature, Niall, now 32, opened up about the aftermath of Liam's death. He is promoting his new solo album, Dinner Party, which includes a track titled End of an Era dedicated to Liam. The emotional lyrics reflect on their time together in One Direction, with lines like: We had it / Pure magic / Remember what it was like / Time passes / So fast and / I couldn't tell you goodbye.
Niall explained how he went into hiding a little bit after Liam's funeral, which was attended by all their former bandmates: Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson. He recalled seeing numerous photos and videos of their youth, sparking immediate nostalgia alongside feelings of fear, sadness, and the complex emotions that accompany grief.

Upon hearing the news of Liam's passing, Niall described his initial reaction: I just remember getting a message, and I was just like, What?... I just didn't think it was real. He expressed disbelief at losing someone so young, especially someone he had recently seen, cycling through shock, sadness, and anger.

He also mentioned seeing Liam in Argentina shortly before his death, noting that Liam seemed in good form.
