Simone Ashley Addresses Bridgerton Loyalty Amid Diminished Screen Time
Simone Ashley, the actor who rose to fame as Kate Sharma in Bridgerton's second season, has spoken openly about her unwavering loyalty to the hit Netflix series, despite her character's significantly reduced screen time in recent instalments. The 31-year-old star, who became an international sensation following her 2022 portrayal of Jonathan Bailey's love interest, emphasised her commitment to the production during a recent podcast appearance.
Learning from Co-Star Jonathan Bailey
Speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast, released on Tuesday 14 April 2026, Ashley revealed that she learned valuable lessons about dedication from her co-star Jonathan Bailey. She described how Bailey set a powerful example of loyalty to the show, which revolves around themes of family and homecoming. Ashley explained that this ethos has created an environment where returning to film feels like coming home to a supportive family unit.
"I think he set a great example of loyalty to the show," Ashley told Theroux. "It is a show about family and returning home, and I think a lot of people follow that suit. I particularly learned a lot from that example. And now when we go back, there is that environment of coming home and feeling like we're part of a family."
Scheduling Commitment to Bridgerton
When pressed by host Louis Theroux about what this loyalty means in practical terms, Ashley provided concrete examples of how she and Bailey prioritise the show. She detailed how Bailey managed to film Bridgerton while simultaneously working on Wicked, frequently travelling between Toronto and London. Ashley herself acknowledged that despite her own hectic schedule—which recently involved visiting eight cities in a single month—she would always make time for Bridgerton.
"I would've scheduled it in," Ashley declared emphatically. "I can only comment on what me and Johnny have done. And that is, we just really make sure that our schedules can make it work. I thank God I've not been filming during the start of this year, but I would've done it."
Fan Reactions and Character Development
Following the podcast's release, Bridgerton enthusiasts took to social media to express their frustration with the diminished focus on Ashley's character. Many fans argued that the show's writers should allocate more screen time to Kate Sharma's storyline, dismissing suggestions that Ashley's schedule might be the limiting factor.
One fan wrote on social media platform X: "I'm so tired. Can they please give more time and story to these folks. Can't be that much writing." Another supporter added: "To all those annoying people who keep saying that it's her schedule that stops them from getting scenes. They continue to put it out that it's definitely not that and it's just the showrunners and writers."
Bridgerton's Evolving Narrative Focus
While Ashley and Bailey appeared in all eight episodes of season two, which centred on Anthony and Kate's romantic development, their presence has diminished considerably in subsequent seasons. The couple briefly returned in seasons three and four, with storylines involving travel to India and the off-screen birth of their son Edmund.
Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell addressed the characters' reduced presence in January, telling Glamour magazine: "We made this meal of sending them off to India at the end of season three, and that's a long journey. They weren't going to come back immediately."
Career Developments Beyond Bridgerton
Since her breakthrough role in Bridgerton, Ashley has expanded her acting portfolio with appearances in The Little Mermaid live-action reboot and the upcoming Devil Wears Prada sequel. She was originally cast in the F1 film, though her role was ultimately cut from the final production.
Ashley isn't the only Bridgerton alumnus expressing willingness to return to the series. Phoebe Dynevor, who starred in the show's first season, recently revealed that she didn't choose to leave after season two and would happily return if asked. "We were the ones that got away I think," Dynevor told Collider Ladies Night. "I can only speak for myself but I would always come back if I was asked. I have not received a call and when I get that call, I will be there if I can."
The ongoing dialogue about cast loyalty and character development continues to engage Bridgerton's dedicated fanbase, who remain invested in the stories of all the show's characters, regardless of their current screen time allocation.
