Fans of iconic rock band The Killers have finally been given a clear timeline for the group's long-awaited next studio album. Frontman Brandon Flowers has confirmed that after a five-year wait, the band's next record is slated for release in 2027, promising it will be their best work to date.
A Five-Year Wait for the 'Best' Record
In a new interview, the 44-year-old singer confirmed that the band has been writing new material. He pinpointed 2027 as the target year for the release, describing the upcoming project as 'the best Killers record'. The last album from the Las Vegas-formed group was Pressure Machine, which came out in August 2021.
Flowers explained that logistical planning is currently underway, as he is also preparing to release two solo records. 'I have two records complete. One is almost mixed. The other will follow shortly,' he stated, highlighting the challenge of scheduling both his solo work and the band's next move.
Touring and Solo Projects Shaped the Timeline
The extensive touring schedule of The Killers has been a significant factor in the gap between albums. Speaking to The Sun, Flowers detailed how a mammoth run of over 90 gigs in 2022 and 65 more in 2023, followed by a 2024 residency at Caesar's in Las Vegas, consumed their time.
This busy period, along with the production involved, effectively occupied 2024. With 2025 also now wrapped up, Flowers expects his two solo albums to emerge in 2026, paving the way for The Killers' collective return the following year. 'We’ve been writing here and there,' he added, assuring fans that creativity has continued.
The Enduring Mystery of the Band's Name
In a separate but related revelation, some fans have only recently discovered the origin of the band's name, even after 25 years. The Killers, formed in 2001 by Flowers and guitarist Dave Keuning, took their name from a fictional band featured in a New Order music video.
Specifically, the name was spotted on the drum kit of the fictional group in the video for New Order's 2001 song Crystal. Flowers, a noted fan of the iconic Manchester band, saw the name and, finding it unclaimed, adopted it for his own nascent group. This fact recently sparked discussion on forums like Reddit, where users expressed surprise that such a straightforward, powerful name had remained available for so long.
The band, completed by bassist Mark Stoermer and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr., has since become globally famous with anthems like Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Me. Now, with a firm date on the horizon, the wait for their next chapter has a definitive end in sight.
