Triple J Host Concetta Caristo Leaves After Four Years

In a significant shake-up for Australian radio, popular Triple J breakfast host Concetta Caristo has announced her departure from the national broadcaster after almost four years. Her final show is scheduled to air on Friday, June 26, marking the end of an era for the morning slot she has co-hosted since December 2022.

A Heartfelt Farewell on Social Media

The 31-year-old comedian, affectionately known as Chet to her listeners, shared the news on Friday via a heartfelt social media post accompanied by a nostalgic reel of photos from her time at the station. In her message, Caristo expressed the difficulty of putting her experiences into words, despite her profession.

'Some news from me - I'm leaving Triple J! The amount of drafts I have for this caption you'd think I was writing a book,' she wrote. 'But for a girl who has talked for a living the last 3 and a half years, putting into words my time at Triple J has felt impossible.'

Reflecting on Joy and Challenges

Caristo reflected on the profound impact of her role, stating that if she could tell her younger self about this job, 'she wouldn't have believed you and then cried with happiness.' She acknowledged the immense joy, incredible memories, and lifelong friendships the position brought, but also highlighted its demanding nature.

'This job has given me so much joy, it's given me incredible memories and life-long friends,' she penned. 'But it has also been demanding, exhausting and stressful. I have given it my all and now I know it's time to give my all to something else.'

Gratitude to Fans and Legacy at Triple J

In her farewell, Caristo extended heartfelt thanks to her fans, noting that messages from listeners often sustained her during tough times. 'On my darkest days it was a text or dm from someone who reached out to say what it meant to them that kept me going,' she shared.

During her tenure, Caristo became a notable figure at Triple J, hosting flagship segments such as the Hottest 100 and Like A Version. She also co-hosted high-profile events including ABC's Logie-nominated New Year's Eve broadcast and the ARIA Awards, cementing her reputation as a versatile and beloved presenter.

New Line-Up Announced

Triple J has moved swiftly to announce replacements for the breakfast slot. The current Drive duo, Abby Butler and Tyrone Pynor, who have been in the evening slot since 2023, will take over the breakfast show. A station spokesperson praised the pair, stating, 'They've been at the heart of so many of Triple J's most memorable moments, from hosting the Hottest 100 and Mardi Gras, to livestreaming Triple J's One Night Stand nationwide, broadcasting from Australia's biggest music festivals, and so much more.'

Butler expressed excitement about the move, saying, 'Brb letting my 14-year-old self know her dreams have come true. She's currently too busy calling into Triple J to try and win San Cisco's bongos from their Like A Version (true story!), but it's safe to say she'll be stoked.' Pynor humorously added, 'Girl... imma need a louder alarm.'

Co-Host Luka Muller's New Role

Caristo's breakfast co-host, fellow comedian Luka Muller, 32, will also transition to a new position as the host of the Drive show, with his next co-star yet to be announced. Muller shared his pride in their work together, stating, 'I'm so proud of everything Concetta and I got to do on Breakfast and feel so very lucky to have shared it all with someone so kind, talented, fun, and silly as Chet.'

He added, 'Stepping into Drive is gonna be so much fun. I'm excited to meet new listeners, I'm excited for everyone to see what we've been cooking up, and I'm excited to turn off the 4am alarm.'

Schedule Changes and Final Broadcast

The transition will see Caristo and Muller wrap up their breakfast show on Friday, June 26. Abby Butler and Tyrone Pynor will then move into the breakfast slot, while Luka Muller and his new co-host will begin on Drive in July. This reshuffle marks a significant period of change for Triple J, as it adjusts to new voices in key programming roles.
