MAFS Male Contestants Spark Fashion Fury with Jeggings Trend
Married At First Sight viewers have identified a peculiar and unexpected trend among this season's male participants, which has nothing to do with their televised marriages. Instead, attention has shifted to their wardrobe choices, specifically the adoption of tight, stretchy trousers known as jeggings.
Social Media Satirist Highlights the Trend
This week, social media satirist Fashion Critical sent fans into a frenzy by uploading photographs of several grooms from the show wearing these form-fitting garments. The faux-pants, commonly referred to as jeggings, have emerged as a notable fashion statement among the men of MAFS this year. Notably, Filip Gregov wore a pair when proposing to Stella Mickunaiten during Tuesday's episode.
Other grooms who have embraced the jeggings trend include David Momoh, Danny Hewitt, and Scott McCristal. Fashion Critical encapsulated the sentiment in a post, writing: 'If there’s one word that encapsulates the men on this season of @mafs, it’s JEGGINGS. Not quite pants; not quite leggings, 7/8ths length.'
Fan Reactions and Criticism
Fans were quick to express their disapproval of the skin-tight look on social media platforms. One commenter questioned: 'Who genuinely thinks this a good look?' while another bluntly stated: 'Bloody awful.' Additional criticisms included remarks such as 'Too. Many. Fashion. Crimes,' and a query asking if 'skin tight pants a tick box on the application form?'
Financial Implications for the Cast
This fashion revelation coincides with reports indicating that this year's MAFS cast may leave the experiment in a worse financial position than when they entered. According to new figures from National Accounts, the current batch of aspiring influencers is projected to be the lowest-earning cohort in the history of the show.
At the top of the earnings list is Gia Fleur, who has received a 'villain' edit this season. Her earning potential is estimated to peak at $1,548 per sponsored post. With 88,800 followers at the time of data collection—though she now has 94,400—the lower end of her potential earnings is $1,267 per post.
She is closely followed by fellow bride Alissa Fay, who has an estimated earning range of $877 to $1,072 per post. Despite leaving the Nine series during the third commitment ceremony after his relationship with Melissa Akbay dissolved, Luke Fourniotis is still expected to generate some income, with data suggesting he could earn between $691 and $846 per sponsored post.
Additional Cast Earnings
Fan-favourite bride Stella Mickunaite and Gia's groom Scott McCristal are also within a similar earnings bracket. Meanwhile, participants at the lower end of the scale include couple Sammy Stanton, with an estimated range of $372 to $456 per post, and Chris Robinson, who could earn between $289 and $352.
David Momoh and Rachel Gilmore appear to be at comparable levels, while Bec Zacharia ranks as the lowest potential earner among the top ten. Despite being one of the most controversial brides on the series, alongside her frenemy Gia, Bec is only expected to make $250 to $312 per sponsored post.
