The long-running feud between Prince William and Prince Harry could potentially be resolved, but according to a new television documentary, the outcome may rest largely in the hands of one key figure: the Princess of Wales.
The Royal Peacemaker
A recently aired Channel 5 programme, titled The Jobless Prince: What Will Harry Do Next?, has investigated the future of the Duke of Sussex and whether he might ever be welcomed back into the royal fold. The analysis suggests that while a full return as a working royal is highly improbable, Princess Catherine could be the crucial element in bridging the divide between the brothers.
Royal commentator Charlotte Griffiths, featured in the documentary, expressed her view on the matter. "I think Harry could get around the William problem if he got Catherine onboard," she stated. "If Catherine played peacemaker, which I think she would be open to as she is, or was, quite fond of Harry." This fondness, cultivated over many years, positions Kate uniquely to mediate the bitter conflict that has persisted for over half a decade.
Past Evidence of Kate's Mediating Role
The documentary highlights that this would not be the first time the Princess of Wales has stepped into a peacekeeping role within the family. Her talent for diplomacy was notably on public display during the funeral of Prince Philip in April 2021.
Following the service at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, Kate was seen walking and talking with both William and Harry. In a subtle but significant move, she deliberately dropped back to allow the two brothers a moment to converse privately as they proceeded on foot.
Commenting on this incident at the time, royal biographer Brian Hoey told The Sun, "Thank God for Kate — she is the rock the monarchy will depend on." He praised her impeccable behaviour during a period of intense family strain.
Her efforts to reconcile the brothers predate even Harry and Meghan's dramatic exit from royal life in 2020. Reports from 2019 indicated that Kate advised Harry to extend an olive branch to William to mend their fractured relationship.
This advice led to a meeting at Frogmore Cottage after Easter Sunday church services. The two couples reportedly chatted for about thirty minutes in an attempt to repair what was described as a "complete and utter breakdown of communication." A palace source told the Mirror at the time, "Kate is acutely aware of the importance of William and Harry getting along, not just because of perception but their collective responsibility to the monarchy as a whole."
A Limited Path to Reconciliation
Despite the potential for Kate to facilitate a personal reconciliation, the documentary presents a stark outlook for Harry's official royal future. Charlotte Griffiths was unequivocal about the Duke's professional prospects within the institution.
She declared simply, "William will not have his brother back in the royal family when he is on the throne." This suggests that any reconciliation brokered by Kate would likely remain on a personal, familial level rather than paving the way for a return to official duties for Harry and Meghan.
The analysis comes amid speculation about the Duke of Sussex's career options in the United States, described in the programme as 'drying up', adding another layer of complexity to his strained relationship with the Royal Family.
