Princess Anne Misses Remembrance Sunday for Australian Tour
Princess Anne Absent from Cenotaph Service

King Charles led the nation in a poignant act of remembrance today, as the Royal Family gathered at the Cenotaph for the annual Remembrance Sunday service. However, one senior royal was conspicuously absent from the sombre proceedings on Whitehall.

A Notable Absence Explained

While the King and Prince William laid wreaths at the national war memorial, and Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales observed from a nearby balcony, Princess Anne was not in attendance. Her absence was not due to illness but to a pre-planned official duty. The Princess Royal is currently on a four-day tour of Australia, accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.

Earlier today, in a parallel act of commemoration, Princess Anne attended a Remembrance service and laid a wreath at the Anzac Memorial in Sydney. Her visit marks the centenary of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals, for which she has served as Colonel-in-Chief since 1977.

Long-Standing Military Commitments Overseas

Buckingham Palace had announced this overseas engagement several weeks prior. In an official statement, the Palace confirmed: "The Princess will undertake a series of military engagements in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane." In her role as President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, she also laid a wreath at the Sydney War Cemetery.

This trip marks more than 20 visits to Australia for the hardworking royal. Her last visit in 2022 coincided with the anniversary of her father, Prince Philip's, death.

Continuing the Diplomatic Mission

The Princess Royal's tour is not over. Following her Australian engagements, she will travel to Singapore for a two-day visit. This leg of the journey is designed to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Singapore, underscoring her vital role in international relations for the Royal Family.

Despite her physical absence from London, Princess Anne's participation in remembrance events on the other side of the world highlights the global reach of the Royal Family's commemorative duties and her unwavering dedication to her military patronages.
