Beyond Paradise Star Teases 'Nautical Drama' in Season 4

Beyond Paradise Icon Kris Marshall Lifts Lid on Season 4 Drama and Mysteries

Kris Marshall, the star of the popular BBC crime drama Beyond Paradise, has offered tantalising glimpses into what viewers can anticipate from the show's highly awaited fourth season. In a recent appearance on The One Show, Marshall teased that the new episodes will be brimming with intense drama and intriguing cases, marking a shift from previous romantic tensions.

End of 'Will They Won't They' Drama and New Nautical Intrigue

Speaking to hosts JB Gill and Clara Amfo, Marshall confirmed that the classic 'will they won't they' dynamic between his character, DI Humphrey Goodman, and partner Martha, played by Sally Bretton, has concluded following their wedding in the Christmas special. "There's not the will-they-won't-they drama going on," he stated, clarifying that the focus now shifts to other compelling storylines.

However, drama is far from absent. Marshall hinted at "a rather nautical drama that occurs pretty much at the beginning of season four," suggesting that water-based crimes will play a central role. He emphasised, "So yeah, drama is not too far away with Humphrey!" This nautical theme aligns with Marshall's personal preference for episodes involving aquatic elements, which he finds particularly enjoyable to film.

Mermaid Mystery and Folklore Cases Await

When pressed about his favourite crime from the new season, Marshall enthusiastically revealed a standout episode. "We have got a wonderful episode this season about mermaids. So obviously that invariably involves a lot of water," he explained. "And yeah, so that's always my favourite." This mermaid-themed mystery promises to add a whimsical yet suspenseful layer to the series, blending fantasy with the show's signature crime-solving format.

Joining Marshall on The One Show was his co-star Dylan Llewellyn, who portrays Constable Kelby Hartford. Llewellyn expanded on the season's cases, highlighting a return to folklore-inspired plots. "So for the season we've got a lot more folklore again, which is great, a lot of like treasure maps, treasure map of Shipton Abbott, Green Man, and Morris dancing, although we call it Dark Morris dancing," he shared. These elements suggest a deeper exploration of local myths and legends in the fictional Devon setting.

Physical Challenges and Humorous Moments on Set

Llewellyn also described the physical demands of filming, noting that his character gets thoroughly involved in the action. "Honestly, they get me running. They get me dirty for sure," he said, recounting a scene where he was "falling about in like a muddy dock area." He added, "And yeah, it took me a couple of showers to get the seaweed smell out of me."

Marshall found Llewellyn's performance in this scene particularly amusing, interjecting, "That is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, honestly. I mean, he is hilarious." This behind-the-scenes anecdote underscores the camaraderie among the cast and the blend of humour and grit that defines the series.
