Coronation Street fans have pieced together a chilling theory about newcomer Jodie Ramsey, predicting her intentions towards brother-in-law David Platt are far more sinister than a simple romantic entanglement.
The Mysterious Arrival and Unsettling Behaviour
Jodie, portrayed by actress Olivia Frances-Brown, first appeared in the historic Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover episode, discovered tied up in a van. She swiftly arrived on the famous Manchester cobbles, introducing herself as the long-lost sister of Shona Platt, a character who had never mentioned a sibling in her decade on the show.
Now residing at number eight with Shona and David, Jodie's actions have raised eyebrows. With the Platt's newborn, Harper, still in hospital being treated for a neck tumour, Jodie was seen looking at a locket containing pictures of two young children. She hastily hid it when David (Jack P. Shepherd) returned home from the hospital, instead making an overt fuss of him, rubbing his arm and announcing she had prepared a vegetarian lasagne for his tea before suggesting he take a bath.
Viewer Theories: From Seduction to Something Sinister
On social media, fans were quick to dissect the unnerving scenes. Initial reactions speculated about a potential affair. "Jodie and David are going to sleep together aren't they? #Corrie," wrote one viewer. However, the theory quickly evolved into something darker.
Many now believe Jodie's goal is not seduction, but replacing Shona and stealing her life. "I don't think so but I think she will steal their baby," one fan stated bluntly. On Reddit, a user connected the dots: "Jodie's looking at babies in a locket... Do we think she's got some tragic backstory where she's lost these kids in some way and is going to seduce David, then steal Harper?"
The 'Single White Female' Comparison Takes Hold
The speculation took a cinematic turn as fans began comparing the storyline to the 1992 psychological thriller 'Single White Female', starring Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh, where a roommate systematically steals her friend's identity.
"I am getting some single white female vibes, I won't lie," commented one viewer. Another noted, "Shona and Jodie. Remember the movie 'Single White Female'? Jodie has copied Shona's hair." A more detailed theory emerged: "I’m convinced Jodie is gonna try and steal Shona’s life, first her clothes, then her kids, then her fella!"
Fans have been suspicious since Jodie's bizarre arrival. "Shona's sister just came out of nowhere, why now? Must be more to the story!" questioned one. Another pointed out the odd coincidence of both sisters having an identical 'tree of life' tattoo, hinting at a deeper, planned connection.
This plot follows a recent trend on the ITV soap of introducing long-lost relatives, such as Bernie Winter being revealed as DC Kit Green's mother and Cassie Plummer as Tyrone Dobbs' biological mother. Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITV X from 7am.
