Fans of Coronation Street can finally celebrate, as soap boss Kate Brooks has confirmed a long-awaited wedding is on the cards for one of the show's most talked-about couples. Carla Connor and Lisa Swain, known to fans as 'Swarla', are set to tie the knot in the not-too-distant future, securing their "happy ever after" after months of turmoil.
Overcoming Trauma and a Vindictive Ex
The couple's path to the altar has been anything but smooth. Their relationship was torn apart by the malicious actions of Lisa's ex-wife, Becky Swain. The storyline saw Carla kidnapped by Becky, while Lisa was later involved in a horrific car crash caused by a distracted Becky, which almost cost Lisa her life. Currently on screen, the pair are struggling in the fallout, with Carla deeply hurt by the revelation that Lisa and Becky slept together.
However, producer Kate Brooks has offered reassurance to worried viewers. Speaking to The Mirror, she explained that Becky was an "absolute obstacle" whose true manipulative nature has now been fully revealed. "Lisa's finally kind of realised the extent of the manipulation and the lies that Becky's told," Brooks stated. The 'ghost of Becky is finally being put to bed, allowing the pair to move forward.
A Romantic Spring and Wedding Bells Ahead
Brooks confirmed that despite the current tense scenes, Carla and Lisa's love for each other never faltered. "We'll see them starting to make their way back to each other. There's a lot to get past, but they love each other," she said. This reunion will pave the way for their previously broken engagement to be back on.
"Wedding bells are certainly ringing in the not-too-distant future," Brooks teased, hinting that a "romantic spring" is in store for the couple. This will give them the chance to be "free from Becky and the drama" and finally be "happy and content with each other," a prospect Brooks believes "will make many people smile."
What This Means for Coronation Street
This confirmation provides a clear and uplifting direction for a storyline that has put its characters through immense trauma. While an exact air date for the wedding has not been revealed, the promise of a happy resolution for Swarla is a significant plot point for 2026. It marks a shift from high-drama peril to celebratory romance, offering fans a satisfying payoff for their investment in the couple's journey.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
