Devil Wears Prada 2 Director Addresses Adrian Grenier's Missing Role

David Frankel, the director of the highly anticipated sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2, has provided a detailed explanation for Adrian Grenier's absence from the film, despite the actor's previous expressions of disappointment. The sequel, set for release on May 1, will reunite the core original cast including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, but notably excludes Grenier, who played Nate, Andy's toxic boyfriend in the 2006 original.

Timing Issues Foil Planned Cameo

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Frankel disclosed that he had intended to include Grenier in a cameo appearance. "I had an idea about sneaking him into a cameo, and, in the end, it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen," Frankel stated. When pressed for details about the planned cameo, the director remained tight-lipped, saying, "No, I probably shouldn't say." However, he expressed admiration for Grenier's recent Starbucks commercial, which humorously addressed the situation, praising its "humility and comedy."

Grenier's Reaction and Fan Backlash

Adrian Grenier, the 49-year-old actor known for Entourage, recently starred in a Starbucks commercial for energy refreshers, where he quipped, "Let's leave Nate back in 2006 and keep this good energy going." Last month, he told Page Six about his exclusion from the sequel, saying, "Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn't get the call to be in the sequel, but I also understand there's some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it." He added, "But I think that just leaves room for a spinoff."

Nate has long been a divisive character among fans, largely due to his lack of support for Andy's demanding career at the fictional Runway magazine. In the original film, the couple breaks up, with Nate briefly returning to announce his move from New York to Chicago.

Additional Cast Changes and Production Details

Earlier this week, it was reported that Sydney Sweeney's cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2 had been cut. The Euphoria star had filmed a scene with Emily Blunt last year, set to appear at the beginning of the movie, but it was removed due to a "creative decision" that deemed it structurally incompatible with the final sequence. Despite this, the film's crew expressed gratitude for Sweeney's participation.

The sequel promises to deliver the same sharp wit and fashion-forward drama as its predecessor, with fans eagerly awaiting the return of iconic characters. As the release date approaches, the absence of Grenier's Nate adds an intriguing layer to the film's narrative, highlighting the challenges of balancing original cast reunions with new creative directions.
