The beloved ITV detective drama Grantchester is back on our screens for its highly anticipated tenth series, marking the beginning of the end for the popular show. Confirmed last year as the penultimate season, series 10 sees the return of fan favourites alongside a stellar line-up of new guest stars from some of Britain's biggest television hits.
Familiar Faces and Final Chapters
Robson Green once again steps into the shoes of DI Geordie Keating, a role he has embodied since the series began. He is joined by Rishi Nair, who continues as Reverend Alphy Kottaram after taking over the vicarage in series nine. They are supported by a strong ensemble of returning characters, ensuring continuity for long-time viewers.
The core cast includes Al Weaver as Leonard Finch, Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs. C, and Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating. Oliver Dimsdale (Daniel Marlowe), Nick Brimble (Jack Chapman), Bradley Hall (DC Larry Peters) and Melissa Johns (Miss Scott) also reprise their roles. This solid foundation sets the stage for the new arrivals who bring fresh intrigue to the Cambridgeshire village.
Introducing the New Guest Stars
ITV has bolstered the cast for the show's final chapters with several notable actors. Kicking off the new series, Maggie O'Neill—best known for Shameless and EastEnders—plays Mavis Andrews, who quickly becomes Geordie's prime suspect. Neil Stuke from Silk and Doctor Foster portrays the decorated war hero Reg Wait.
A significant new addition is Christie Russell-Brown, who joins as librarian Meg Grey. Her character captures Alphy's heart and she is set to appear across all six episodes of series 10, with plans for her to return for the final series eleven. This marks Christie's major television debut following an impressive stage career.
Episode Two's Academic Intrigue
The second episode introduces a compelling academic mystery. Maya Sondhi, famed for playing PC Maneet Bindra in the BBC phenomenon Line of Duty, guest stars as Professor Joshi. She is joined by Guy Henry, instantly recognisable to millions as Henrik Hanssen from Holby City and Casualty, who takes on the role of Professor Aldo.
Other guest stars making an impact include Neal Barry (known from Doctors and Dream Team) as the unfortunate Silas Jennings, the season's first casualty. Gemma Page (Peaky Blinders, The Durrells) also features as Eliza Wait.
Grantchester series 10 continues its run on ITV1 and STV every Wednesday, with all episodes available to stream on ITVX and STV Player. As the show moves towards its conclusion, these new characters promise to deliver the compelling mysteries and human drama that fans have cherished for a decade.
