Hugh Jackman has shared a moving moment at the Met Gala that the cameras didn't capture. The 57-year-old Australian actor attended the prestigious ball in New York on Monday with his new girlfriend, Sutton Foster, on his arm.
Star-Studded Performance
Jackman sat down with the US Today Show after the event and recalled when iconic singer Stevie Nicks joined pop star Sabrina Carpenter on stage during the entertainment portion of the evening. Even in a room full of A-listers, many were starstruck by the performance, including superstar Beyoncé.
Beyoncé excitedly tapped her 14-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, when the two women launched into a song. 'Stevie Nicks came out and sang, and I was sitting,' Jackman explained. 'I'm gonna do some more name dropping, but there was Beyoncé and Rihanna, and I look over, and Beyoncé was just tapping her daughter, who was there, and just had tears in her eyes.' He added, 'Then I was like, that moment right there, that is priceless.'
Carpenter and Nicks combined forces for a duet of the Fleetwood Mac classic track, 'Landslide'.
Controversial Appearance
The heartfelt anecdote comes after Jackman was slammed for attending this year's Met Gala with his new partner. The Wolverine star's shock move was seen as a brutal final blow to his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness when they arrived at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night, tenderly holding hands as they posed for photos.
Social media users were quick to slam Hugh's move as 'disrespectful' and 'classless'. 'Thumbs down! It's forever team Debbie over here!!' one person sniped. 'Poor Deborra,' a second added, while one more said, 'Not a fan.' 'I lost big respect for him,' someone else wrote, while another agreed, 'Yes, pathetic.'
The actor finalised his divorce from Furness last June after 27 years of marriage, while his romance with Foster began in late 2024, following their starring roles in Broadway's 2021 revival of The Music Man.
Jackman and his ex-wife, 70, previously attended multiple Met Galas, with their last joint appearance being in 2023. The actor notably showed up to the 2024 soiree solo and skipped the event altogether in 2025 amid their high-profile split. For his grand 2026 return to the Met Gala, Jackman had Foster, 51, by his side as he trekked up the Metropolitan Museum of Art's iconic staircase.
The couple looked totally smitten as they were often caught sharing loving glances during their red carpet stint. Jackman towered over Foster in a black tuxedo with a stylish velvet jacket and shiny dress shoes. Meanwhile, Foster was the picture of elegance in a glittering gold one-shoulder gown with a matching jewelled clutch. Their Met Gala debut as a couple comes amid rumours that a wedding between the pair is close at hand.
