Jessie Buckley and Penelope Cruz Shine at London Photocall for New Film 'The Bride!'

Fresh from her recent BAFTA triumph, actress Jessie Buckley put on a playful and animated display as she attended the photocall for her upcoming film The Bride! alongside co-star Penelope Cruz in London on Wednesday, March 6. The event, held at the rooftop of the Corinthia Hotel, marked a break from the award season circuit for the 36-year-old star, who is still celebrating her Leading Actress win for Hamnet.

Fashion Statements on the Rooftop

Jessie Buckley made a striking fashion statement, donning a black low-cut top paired with a matching jacket. She completed her look with a multi-coloured patterned skirt and elegant pearl earrings, striking animated poses for the assembled photographers. Her ensemble perfectly captured the celebratory mood of the occasion.

Penelope Cruz opted for a more sleek and sophisticated appearance, wearing a long-sleeved black dress that featured a distinctive fringed detail along the hemline. The garment beautifully highlighted the star's figure, and she paired it with matching heels and eye-catching bejewelled earrings that added a touch of glamour to the ensemble.

Star-Studded Gathering for Gothic Romance

The photocall attracted numerous stars from the film's cast and crew. Director Maggie Gyllenhaal was present wearing a black dress with sheer sleeves, while her husband Peter Sarsgaard sported a grey blazer with a red shirt and dark trousers. Christian Bale, who plays Frankenstein's monster in the film, appeared in casual attire with a black hoodie, matching trousers, and trainers.

The film itself promises to be a captivating gothic romance set in 1930s Chicago. The plot follows Frankenstein's monster as he asks Dr. Euphronious to create a companion for him. Their experiment gives life to a murdered woman known as 'the Bride,' sparking both romance and police interest. Peter Sarsgaard portrays a character named Jake Wiles in this atmospheric production.

Reflecting on BAFTA Success and Motherhood

Jessie Buckley's appearance comes just days after her historic BAFTA win, where she became the first Irish actress to receive the Best Actress award for her role as Agnes in Hamnet. During her emotional acceptance speech, the actress fought back tears as she dedicated the award to her six-month-old daughter, whom she welcomed last year with film producer husband Freddie Sorensen.

'I'd like to share this with my daughter who has been with me since she was six weeks old on the road with this,' Jessie said with a shaky voice. 'It's the best role of my life being your mom and I promise to continue to be disobedient so you can belong to a world where all your mad, complex wildness as a young woman.'

Reflecting on how her role in Hamnet has impacted her personally, Jessie told W magazine: 'Where Agnes had to go, and how brave she was to sit in something that is unfathomable and let it rip through…I think it has made me braver in my life.' She praised director Chloé for being 'such an artist in that she's looking for people's somatic responses to the material' and trying to 'distill it to the most primal vibration between us all.'

The actress was nominated alongside several notable performers including Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, Chase Infiniti for One Battle After Another, and Emma Stone for Bugonia.

Throughout the photocall, the stars displayed excellent camaraderie, with Jessie and Maggie Gyllenhaal putting on particularly animated displays together. At one point, Jessie leaned her head on Maggie's shoulder as the filmmaker put a comforting arm around her, demonstrating the strong bonds formed during the filmmaking process.
