The actor behind one of Landman's most talked-about characters has strongly hinted they will be back for the drama's third season. Bobbi Salvör Menuez, who plays non-binary student Paigyn, has teased a significant return for the divisive figure in the next chapter of the hit Paramount+ series.
A Controversial Introduction
Paigyn was introduced in the show's second season as the new university roommate for Ainsley Norris, played by Michelle Randolph. Ainsley, the daughter of Billy Bob Thornton's character Tommy Norris, leaves home to attend Texas Christian University on a cheerleading scholarship.
Her arrival at university brings an immediate culture clash. Paigyn is a vegan with a pet ferret and a list of demands to maintain their dorm as a "safe space". The character's use of "they/them" pronouns and a confrontation with Ainsley's mother Angela (Ali Larter), who asserts Paigyn must "hate themselves", ignited intense debate among viewers.
From Conflict to Understanding
The season two finale, however, marked a pivotal turn in the relationship. Paigyn offers Ainsley crucial advice at her first cheerleading practice, which helps prevent a serious injury. This act of kindness leads Ainsley to defend Paigyn's identity against a group of teasing teens.
This moment of connection prompted the pair to decide to give living together another chance. Speaking to Deadline, Menuez reflected on this character development, stating: "It’s really nice to suddenly in the finale, have that dimensionality sort of open up, where the reality of one another’s humanity just becomes so much more obvious."
Groundbreaking Representation
Menuez's role is a landmark for creator Taylor Sheridan's television universe, which had not previously featured a non-binary character. The actor expressed pride in portraying a queer character on a major series, especially as such representation remains rare according to studies by organisations like GLAAD.
"It might not be what some audience members might have expected, but it’s also just a true representation of contemporary reality," Menuez explained. "Queer people do exist, they’re gonna keep existing."
While remaining coy on specific plot details, the actor's hope for a return is clear. "I hope I get to learn more soon about if there’s more for Paigyn in this world. That would be awesome," they added. With Landman officially renewed for a third season, fans will soon discover if Paigyn's journey at TCU continues alongside Ainsley's.
The entire series, including the controversial second season, is available to stream exclusively on Paramount+.
