Line of Duty Stars Share Playful Instagram Clip While Filming Series 7
Vicky McClure and Martin Compston delighted fans with a lighthearted Instagram video on Friday, offering a glimpse behind the scenes of the highly anticipated seventh series of Line of Duty. The clip, filmed in black-and-white, shows the actors dancing and singing to Whitney Houston's classic hit I Wanna Dance with Somebody from the front seat of a car.
Behind-the-Scenes Fun as Filming Continues
McClure, 42, who portrays DI Kate Fleming in the acclaimed police procedural, held up her phone to capture the moment, while Compston, 41, playing DS Steve Arnott, enthusiastically joined in the dance. Alongside the video, McClure captioned: 'Friday feeling anyone?!' This playful tease comes as the cast, including Adrian Dunbar as Superintendent Ted Hastings, are currently shooting new scenes for AC-12, marking a return over five years after the divisive sixth series.
Series 7 Details and New Cast Additions
The upcoming series follows AC-12 after it has been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, with the unit tackling its most sensitive case yet. In a significant casting update, BAFTA-winning actor Robert Carlyle has joined as guest character Detective Constable Shaun Massie, a Specialist Rifle Officer. Carlyle expressed his excitement, stating: 'Having been a huge admirer of Jed Mercurio’s work for many years, I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to join such an exceptional cast.'
Series writer Jed Mercurio praised Carlyle, noting: 'Robert always brings mesmerising power and depth to every role; I know viewers will be on the edge of their seats wondering what his character will do next.' This follows in the footsteps of previous guest stars like Kelly Macdonald and Stephen Graham, adding to the show's legacy of high-profile appearances.
Addressing Past Controversies and Future Expectations
The sixth series of Line of Duty faced criticism for its controversial ending, where Det Supt Ian Buckells was revealed as 'H', leaving many fans disappointed. However, recent teasers from Mercurio, including a photo of Dunbar in uniform with the caption referencing Hastings' iconic line about 'bent coppers', have reignited anticipation. The synopsis for series 7 hints at intense drama, with Massie's character becoming involved when his boss is accused of misconduct.
Originally airing on BBC Two before moving to BBC One, the show continues to build momentum. Line of Duty series 7 is expected to premiere in 2027, promising to deliver the suspense and quality that audiences have come to expect from this beloved police drama.
