Martin Compston joins ITV's Red Eye for series two

Fans of the heart-pounding ITV drama Red Eye can finally rejoice, as the confirmed second series is speeding onto screens, and it's bringing a major new star with it.

A New Lead for the High-Altitude Thriller

The hit show, which had viewers gripped last year, is set to return with a fresh face leading the action. Martin Compston, the celebrated actor from Line of Duty, has officially joined the cast for the new season.

Compston steps into a series that made a huge impact with its first run, which followed Dr Matthew Nolan, played by Richard Armitage, as he was wrongfully escorted to Beijing by DC Hana Li, portrayed by Jing Lusi. Their flight was anything but peaceful, spiralling into a dangerous conspiracy and a trail of murders.

Filling Big Shoes and Raising the Stakes

Speaking about his new role, Martin Compston was full of praise for his predecessor. "I had big shoes to fill, literally with the size of Richard!" he remarked. "He did such a wonderful job, leading with Jing in the first series."

He described the experience of joining a successful show as a "lovely pressure", adding, "It’s great to come onto a job when you know there’s nice pressure on it because the first season was such a success... Your job is to help take it to the next level."

While keeping specific plot details under wraps, Compston did tease that the new series gets progressively more intense. He promised that the narrative becomes "more outlandish" and "more wild" with each episode, ensuring another nail-biting ride for the audience.

A Stellar Cast Returns and Expands

Jing Lusi is confirmed to return as the determined DC Hana Li, and she expressed her excitement about the new series and her co-star. "I'm incredibly excited to return to the world of Red Eye, and thrilled to be sharing this rollercoaster with the brilliant Martin Compston," she said.

Compston also had glowing words for his colleagues, singling out Jing Lusi's commitment and describing fellow cast member Lesley Sharp as "British acting royalty".

The ensemble cast for the new series is further bolstered by the addition of Isaura Barbe-Brown, Nicholas Rowe, Danusia Samal, Trevor White, and Guy Williams. While ITV has confirmed the series is coming soon, an exact broadcast date is still to be announced.
