Michael McIntyre Stumped by Gen Z Slang on The Wheel as BBC Quiz Show Thrown into Chaos
Michael McIntyre baffled by Gen Z slang on BBC's The Wheel

BBC host Michael McIntyre found himself hilariously out of touch with modern youth culture during filming for the hit quiz show The Wheel, as a question about Gen Z slang left him and his celebrity panel utterly baffled.

Celebrity Experts Left Guessing

In an exclusive first look at the brand new episode, airing on Saturday, December 6 at 8:05pm, contestant Wendy was faced with a question that proved problematic for everyone on set. The query, based on a 2025 Oxford University Press report, asked: "What did children choose as their favourite slang word?" The multiple-choice options were slay, skibidi, sigma, and bussin'.

Wendy sought help from celebrity expert Angela Scanlon, who was among the star lineup for the episode. The panel also included Dermot O'Leary, Anita Rani, Alex Brooker, Natalie Cassidy, Lucy Beaumont, and Mark Chapman. Angela attempted to reason through the choices, suggesting "slay queen" was popular but might be "2024 though", and admitting skibidi was "something to do with the Kardashians" and possibly a toilet ghost.

"Does Anybody Know What That Is?"

After confessing she only knew what "sigma" meant in the context of a fraternity house and pulling a face at the word "bussin'", Angela turned to Wendy. The contestant replied that only "slay" made any sense to her, leading her to select that answer.

Before revealing if she was correct, host Michael McIntyre appealed to the studio, asking: "Does anybody know what sigma, skibidi or bussin' is?" He then joked about the reaction at home, quipping: "Well, children are screaming at their tellies. And they should shut up. Go finish your food, brush your teeth... it's late already. We can't have this every single night, bed time after The Wheel."

He signed off his mock rant with a confused attempt to use the slang himself, declaring: "Stop bussin' around you sigma's."

Viewers Must Wait for the Answer

The chaotic and humorous moment highlights the generational divide in language, leaving fans in suspense. They will have to tune in this weekend to discover whether Wendy's choice of "slay" was correct and if she managed to win a life-changing cash prize.

The episode promises more of the show's signature format, with hopeful players relying on the knowledge of celebrities positioned around the giant spinning wheel to help them answer questions across a wide range of subjects.
