First Look at MobLand Series Two Shows Tom Hardy and Joanne Frogatt in Tense Confrontation
Exclusive first look images from the set of MobLand series two have emerged, showcasing stars Tom Hardy and Joanne Frogatt filming a seemingly steely clash between their characters. The Paramount+ crime drama, which launched last year, features Hardy, 48, as Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the Harrigan crime family, while Downton Abbey alum Frogatt, 45, portrays his wife, Jan de Souza, mother to their teenage daughter, Gina, played by Teddie Allen.
Filming on the Banks of the Thames
The pair were snapped together during filming of a tense scene for the upcoming second series on the banks of London's River Thames. In the images, Tom Hardy appears reflective, gazing into the distance, while other pictures suggest the characters are locking horns in a face-to-face confrontation. The gritty series, renewed for a second run in June 2025 after its launch three months earlier, follows the story of warring crime families in London.
Star-Studded Cast and Production Details
The ensemble cast includes acting heavyweights such as Pierce Brosnan and Dame Helen Mirren as Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, alongside Paddy Considine, Janet McTeer, Toby Jones, and Lara Pulver. MobLand was created by Ronan Bennett, with executive producers including Guy Ritchie and Jez Butterworth. Last month, filming for the new series featured a dramatic stunt, with a colossal fireball engulfing a warehouse near the River Thames in Newham, lighting up London's skyline and shocking locals.
One stunned resident recounted, 'We heard this massive bang and the whole sky lit up orange. For a second we thought something had gone terribly wrong—then we realised it was a film set. It was absolutely mental.' Emergency services were placed on standby during the filming of this explosive scene.
Behind-the-Scenes Tensions Emerge
While the series depicts fictional crime battles, insiders report real-life personal tensions brewing on set between Dame Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy. Sources indicate that relations have become 'extremely strained' during the filming of the second series. Dame Helen, 80, is said to be 'getting increasingly frustrated' with Hardy's attitude, including his lateness and tone.
One source explained, 'Tom's character is charming. He's the calm one, but it is quite the opposite when the cameras stop. Dame Helen is a joy, she is a total pro and she has worked with so many people over the years. But she is getting increasingly frustrated with Tom and his attitude. He can be late to filming too, and that is annoying for Dame Helen, who is extremely professional and disciplined.'
Another insider added, 'His tone is something Dame Helen doesn't like, along with his lateness. She expects better. She holds people to a high standard. She's 80. She's been there and seen it all. The behind-the-scenes crew watch it all and believe that she no longer looks as happy working on scenes with him. It has all become quite personal between them.' Reports suggest Hardy, married to Peaky Blinders actress Charlotte Riley, 43, has a tendency to get cross behind the scenes, with one source noting, 'It feels like Tom is winding her up. There is much chatter that he swaggers around like he's the king. He is very, very arrogant.' A representative for Hardy did not respond to requests for comment.
MobLand series one is currently available to stream on Paramount+, with the second series eagerly anticipated by fans of the crime drama.
