Scrubs Revival Premieres with Cast Sharing Dream Guest Stars
The long-awaited return of the hit medical comedy Scrubs has finally arrived, with the first two episodes premiering on Wednesday after a 16-year hiatus. Original stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke have reprised their iconic roles as JD, Turk, and Elliot, respectively, much to the delight of fans worldwide.
New Roles and Nostalgic Returns
In this revival series, the former interns of Sacred Heart Hospital have evolved into mentors, guiding a new generation of rookie doctors through the chaotic world of medicine. While viewers are thrilled to see the beloved characters back in action, some have expressed dismay at how certain relationships have changed since the show's last episode aired in 2010.
The revival's official summary highlights the enduring bromance between JD and Turk, noting that while medicine and interns have evolved, their friendship remains a constant source of humor and heart.
Celebrity Patient Wish List Revealed
In a recent interview with Variety, the cast shared their dream list of guest actors they would love to see as patients on the show. Sarah Chalke expressed her desire for Kate McKinnon to appear, suggesting the former Saturday Night Live star should have a recurring ailment to ensure multiple episodes.
Donald Faison pointed to his acting inspirations, stating, "Harrison Ford, because he's one of the reasons why I'm an actor. It's him and Denzel Washington." Judy Reyes, who returns as Carla Espinosa, offered a diverse list including Boris Kodjoe, Idris Elba, and Bad Bunny.
Reyes even envisioned a humorous plot for Bad Bunny, where Carla becomes too starstruck to treat the rapper properly. Zach Braff suggested bringing back Scott Foley, who played Sean Kelly in the original series, to reprise his role as JD's nemesis.
Behind the Scenes of the Revival
The journey to this revival began in August 2024, when creator Bill Lawrence exclusively told The Independent that the creative team felt they had "stories to tell." Lawrence acknowledged the challenges of reuniting the cast, particularly noting how Braff and Faison have aged since the show's original run.
Scrubs originally premiered on NBC in 2001 before moving to ABC for its final seasons from 2008 to 2010. The revival continues this legacy, with new episodes airing Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on ABC, available for streaming the following day on Hulu.
The premiere event at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures featured the core cast, including John C. McGinley and Judy Reyes, celebrating the show's return to television. As the series progresses, fans can expect a blend of familiar humor, heartfelt moments, and potential celebrity cameos that could make the cast's wish list a reality.
