Behind the Scenes of Silent Witness: Crew Member Shares Candid Insights

A supporting artist currently working on the BBC's enduring crime drama Silent Witness has opened up about the genuine off-camera personalities of the show's leading stars. The programme, which first aired in 1996, is presently filming its monumental 30th series, continuing its legacy as a staple of British television.

The Stars' Real-Life Demeanor Revealed

Declan Kincaid, a 32-year-old Birmingham-born supporting artist, has provided exclusive revelations to Express.co.uk about his experiences working alongside Emilia Fox and David Caves. Fox joined the cast in 2004 during the show's eighth series, portraying the character of Dr Nikki Alexander, while Caves was introduced as Jack Hodgson in series 16 back in 2013. Their on-screen romance has captivated audiences for years, but Kincaid's insights shed light on their true nature behind the scenes.

"I have more of an interaction with the stars this year than I did last year, but that's just by chance," Kincaid explained, noting his increased involvement during the current production cycle. "However, when we're not filming, we are having lunch, and so obviously I am sitting and rubbing shoulders with the cast behind the scenes, as well as in front of the camera."

A Warm Atmosphere Despite Grim Storylines

In comments that will undoubtedly delight fans, Kincaid described the lead actors as "great people" who remain "professional, warm and welcoming" whenever they encounter admirers. This is particularly noteworthy given that Silent Witness frequently tackles dark and intense subject matter in its plotlines. Kincaid emphasized that the production maintains a positive environment, even when filming challenging scenes.

"In terms of the atmosphere, it can be cold filming outside in the dark," he admitted, referencing the practical realities of television production. "It's a slow area to work in, because it takes so long to film different shots from different angles. But it's still a great atmosphere, and I quite like the adrenaline of the more energetic TV drama."

Professional Boundaries and Fan Interactions

With a career spanning appearances on major programmes such as Coronation Street, Casualty, and This Morning, Kincaid has developed expertise in both on-screen and behind-the-scenes roles. This experience has made him accustomed to handling requests for autographs and memorabilia from enthusiastic fans.

"There are a lot of people who do want autographs. I do try and help people. I do try and pull strings. But it's not my place to get too involved. I'm there to do a job," he stated, highlighting the importance of maintaining professional boundaries. "I have to be professional as well. But you know, if by chance I can help a friend, I'll always try and do that in terms of getting an autograph. But in terms of people on the street who might be hanging around at the edge of the set, I have to remain professional at all times, obviously."

Silent Witness continues to be available for viewing on BBC iPlayer, allowing audiences to enjoy the drama while now having a deeper appreciation for the collaborative and respectful environment that exists behind the cameras.
