Former Strictly Come Dancing finalist Danny Mac has confessed he feels 'physically sick' at the prospect of returning to the BBC dancefloor for a special episode. The actor, who became a fan favourite in 2016, is one of several iconic former contestants set to make a comeback during the show's milestone Blackpool week.
Mixed Emotions For The Returning Star
When asked about his highly-anticipated return, Danny revealed he is experiencing a whirlwind of feelings. "It's a big mixture of emotions," he said. "The most prevalent one is probably feeling quite physically sick! I've been back to Elstree Studios to watch the show and it's just pure excitement, gratitude and joy... But as soon as you attach the idea of performing again it just gets quite terrifying!"
Danny originally competed on the show in 2016 with professional partner Oti Mabuse, consistently wowing the judges with his performances. The couple made it all the way to the final, ultimately finishing as runners-up to Ore Oduba and Joanne Clifton.
Blackpool Memories And Relentless Rehearsals
The upcoming return has sparked memories of his first time dancing at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom nine years ago, where he managed to achieve a perfect score of 40 out of 40 points. His dedication to the competition was absolute, with the actor admitting he saw little of the famous seaside resort during his initial stint.
"Honestly when I was there with Strictly I don't think I saw outside of a taxi or the hotel room," Danny recalled. "We genuinely just rehearsed all of the time. I needed to train that much and I just wanted to learn as much as I could, and Oti wanted to get the best out of me. It was amazing, but there were no Pleasure Beach trips for me!"
Blackpool Week Proceeds With One Absence
The special Blackpool week, airing this weekend, represents a crucial point in the competition as the remaining contestants fight to stay in the show. However, one performer will be notably absent. Contestant La Voix has been forced to take a week off due to a sustained injury.
In a BBC statement, La Voix expressed her disappointment, saying: "My heart truly breaks knowing I won't be dancing in such an iconic venue. I am devastated not to be joining the rest of the cast on that famous dancefloor, but my focus now is on recovery." According to Strictly rules, she will receive a bye and is expected to return the following week.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
