Ted Lasso Season 4: Toheeb Jimoh Reveals His Hopes for Sam and Ted's Story
Ted Lasso star shares hopes for season 4 plot

Toheeb Jimoh, the actor behind AFC Richmond's beloved Nigerian footballer Sam Obisanya, has shared his personal hopes for the highly anticipated fourth season of the hit comedy Ted Lasso. In a recent interview, the 28-year-old star offered a humorous and heartfelt glimpse into what he'd like to see next for the characters, as the Emmy-winning series prepares to return to filming.

Jimoh's Vision: From Joking About Funerals to Hoping for Trophies

Speaking to People magazine, Jimoh first quipped about a darkly comedic plotline for his character. "A funeral for Sam," he joked, before quickly retracting the idea with a laugh. His genuine hope, however, centres on the show's eternally optimistic lead. "I want Ted to actually win something," Jimoh stated emphatically.

He elaborated on Ted Lasso's famous philosophy, which prioritises personal growth over scores. "He's like, 'It's not about the wins and losses.' I'm like, 'Win. Win a trophy, bro. Win a trophy.'" Jimoh mused that such a victory could even shift Ted's entire worldview, potentially fuelling more seasons. "Can you imagine his entire philosophy changes? Great, we'll get like three more seasons. I'm down for that. Let's have a revenge arc for Ted Lasso," he added.

What We Know About the Surprise Fourth Season

The original three-season run of Ted Lasso concluded in 2024, but the story was revived the following year with a major twist revealed by star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis. In 2025, Sudeikis announced on the New Heights podcast that Ted would be coaching a women's team.

Reports confirm that the new season will pick up after the divisive season three finale, which saw Ted return to America to deal with personal issues. The first episode is scheduled to shoot in Kansas City. An official logline states: "Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women's football team." It adds that Ted and the new team will "learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would."

Cast and Critical Acclaim

A majority of the original cast is expected to return for this surprise fourth season. Alongside Jimoh and Sudeikis, the returning ensemble likely includes Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins).

The series has been a critical darling, amassing 61 Emmy nominations and winning 13 awards during its initial run. Jason Sudeikis himself secured the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in both 2021 and 2022. While an official release date for season four on Apple TV+ is yet to be announced, the confirmation of imminent filming and the star's enthusiastic teasers have set expectations high for the show's next chapter.
