Vera star to lead Netflix's Agatha Christie's Seven Dials

Fans of ITV's long-running detective series Vera are set for a thrilling reunion with one of its guest stars, as Mia McKenna Bruce takes centre stage in Netflix's major new crime drama.

From Northumberland to Netflix Stardom

The actress, who appeared in a 2021 episode of Vera titled 'Recovery', has secured the leading role in Agatha Christie's Seven Dials. The highly anticipated series, which launches on Netflix on January 15, features Bruce as the intrepid amateur sleuth Lady Eileen 'Bundle' Brent.

Bruce is no stranger to British audiences. Her television career began on CBBC in Tracy Beaker Returns and The Dumping Ground. She later appeared in popular shows including EastEnders, The Witcher, and Get Even. However, it was her powerful performance in the coming-of-age film How to Have Sex that catapulted her to wider acclaim, earning her both a British Independent Film Award and the coveted BAFTA Rising Star Award.

A Star-Studded Country House Mystery

The Netflix adaptation promises a fresh take on Agatha Christie's 1929 novel, The Seven Dials Mystery. The plot thrusts Bundle Brent into a deadly investigation after a practical joke at a lavish 1925 country house party ends in murder.

Bruce is joined by an impressive ensemble cast, which includes:

  • Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter)
  • Martin Freeman (Sherlock)
  • Nabhaan Rizwan (BAFTA Rising Star Award recipient)
  • Corey Mylchreest (Queen Charlotte)
  • Ed Bluemel (Killing Eve)

The series has been penned by Chris Chibnall, the acclaimed writer behind Doctor Who and Broadchurch, who also serves as executive producer. Chibnall is joined by executive producer Suzanne Mackie, known for her work on The Crown.

Creative Team Hails New Vision for Christie

Both the star and producers have expressed immense excitement for the project. Mia McKenna Bruce praised Chibnall's scripts, telling Netflix's Tudum: "Chris Chibnall's scripts are brilliant, and I'm thrilled to be part of this new interpretation of the iconic Agatha Christie's storytelling."

Executive producer Suzanne Mackie echoed this enthusiasm, stating: "I am excited to be bringing Agatha Christie's Seven Dials to life and to be introducing a new generation of iconic Christie characters to the screen. It has been a joy to work with Chris Chibnall in creating this bold, authored, and ambitious vision for the series."

Netflix's official synopsis describes the show as "a witty, epic and fast-paced drama" that aims to crack wide open the classic country house mystery. With its blend of a BAFTA-winning rising star, a revered literary source, and a top-tier creative team, Agatha Christie's Seven Dials is poised to be a major streaming event for crime drama enthusiasts when it debuts next week.
