Comedian Alan Carr has revealed the hilarious details of how his close friend and co-star, Amanda Holden, attempted to play matchmaker for him in Greece, with unexpectedly candid results.
A Well-Intentioned but 'Naive' Setup
While filming the latest series of their travel show, Amanda and Alan's Greek Job, which sees the pair renovating a property in Corfu, Holden decided to take matters into her own hands to aid Carr's love life. She created a profile for him on a local Greek dating app.
However, the television presenter was in for a shock. Speaking to The Sun, Alan Carr explained, 'Amanda put me on a Greek app, but I don't think she realised how much information the gays want!'
He went on to joke about the intensely personal nature of the questions, which were far from the simple inquiries about eye colour that Holden had anticipated. 'There were sizes, kinks: "Are you a train or a tunnel?" "Are you the letter or the letterbox?"' Carr recounted.
The comedian shared Holden's bewildered reaction, quoting her as saying, 'Alan, I love you to bits, but I've had to guess some of these.' He concluded, 'I think she was a bit naive and thought they'd be asking about eye colour, but it was quite intimate.'
Alan Carr's Journey Back to the Dating Scene
This amusing incident comes as Carr navigates life back on the dating market. The funnyman was previously married to Paul Drayton in a 2018 ceremony officiated by their friend Adele. The couple, who had been together for 13 years, announced their split in January 2022.
Last year, Carr exclusively confirmed to The Daily Mail that he was single again following his reported split from his 28-year-old boyfriend, Callum Heslop.
Despite Holden's digital matchmaking efforts, Carr has been vocal about his reluctance to use dating apps. In an interview with the Mirror back in January, he stated, 'I'm dating, I'm dipping my toe in, but that's all I'm doing. I won't do the apps, it has to be a friend of a friend.'
He lamented his lack of success, partly blaming his busy schedule: 'I'm just going on a few dates but they're unsuccessful. I mean, I'm never in the country, but I'm ready now for someone... anyone.'
When it comes to his type, Carr quipped, 'I look for a rugby boy. I like them big, and chunky - chunky everywhere. If you catch what I'm saying.' He also expressed his hesitation about using platforms like Grindr, wondering, 'Do you really want this face popping up on a [dating] app?'
Beyond Dating: Tears on Celebrity Traitors
In other news, Alan Carr recently opened up about his emotional breakdown during the finale of Celebrity Traitors. During an appearance on This Morning, he confessed that his tears were triggered by his fellow contestant, Nick Mohammed.
Carr, who was chosen as a Traitor alongside Jonathan Ross and Cat Burns, explained the pivotal moment: 'That's what made me cry was Nick - around that roundtable, at the end, he looked at me, and he was like, "We've got this," and I was like, "No, I've got this."'
He also described developing a 'blood lust' during the game and revealed the backlash he received for his strategic moves. 'I murdered Paloma. I felt awful. And then the next week, when I murdered Tom Daley, I was getting abuse from the gays. "Oh, you've killed the only eye candy in the castle, Alan!"'
