A refuse collector has been hailed a hero after his alert actions saved the life of a tiny kitten that had been callously thrown away with the rubbish.
A Faint Cry Amidst the Noise
While carrying out his rounds, the binman heard a strange, faint squeaking sound coming from his lorry, distinct from the usual roar of the engine and compactor. Deciding to investigate the unusual noise, he made a discovery that would change one animal's fate.
His search led him to a nine-week-old kitten that had been discarded amidst food waste, used packaging, and broken household items. The workers managed to stop the bin from being emptied into the lorry just in time.
A Deliberate Act of Cruelty
The cat's new owner, who shared the story, explained the horrifying details. The kitten was found right at the bottom of a commercial Biffa bin, stuck under a cardboard box with a brick placed on top to prevent its escape.
"It breaks my heart every time I think of someone doing it on purpose," she said. The binmen carefully retrieved the soaking wet animal and placed him next to the heating vent in their cab to warm up.
Thanks to their intervention, the kitten got the help it needed. Now almost 10 years old, the cat is described as a "very happy, healthy boy" who bears no scars from his traumatic start in life.
