Mel B, the 50-year-old Spice Girls star, has candidly opened up about her menopause symptoms, describing them as "scary" and revealing how they have impacted her bedroom habits with her husband Rory McPhee, 37. During an appearance at London's Ce La Vie rooftop bar, where she was announced as the new global face of Revive Collagen, Mel B admitted to experiencing anxiety and intense hot sweats that nearly prompted a visit to her GP.
Menopause Struggles and Misinformation
Speaking about her symptoms, Mel B confessed that she used to sit in meetings wondering if others were feeling hot too. "I was confused about what was going on and thought something is a bit wrong with me," she said. The singer, known as Scary Spice, has since renamed the menopause "Mel-opause" and emphasised that women must understand the changes are not their fault. "A billion women go through menopause worldwide every single year. It can happen at 35, it can happen at 50 and it can happen for 10 years, so what you are going through can be quite scary," she added. Despite widespread misinformation, Mel B is encouraged that people are now talking more openly about menopause.
Bedroom Solutions with Husband Rory McPhee
The menopause symptoms began affecting her sleep and intimacy with Rory McPhee, her husband of 37. Mel B explained that while she would be profusely sweating at night, Rory would feel cold. To solve this, they invested in an Eight Sleep mattress, which costs around £3,000 and allows each person to set a different temperature on their side. "We do have the Eight pod because I like a freezing bedroom and I was getting hot sweats at night. My side of the bed is really cold. The mattress controls the temperature and it wakes you up gently. It's genius. Rory likes everything really really hot, he's a bit of a softie. I like everything really cold. I've always been like that. I always like a window open even in winter but I needed it even colder," she shared.
Brand Ambassadorship and Emotional Reunion
Mel B has become a brand ambassador for Revive Collagen after considering a GP visit for her symptoms. She joked about renaming menopause and urged women to seek support. Her comments come days after she surprised fans by joining former bandmate Melanie C on stage for a rare rendition of "Spice Up Your Life." The duo performed together for the first time since 2019, with Mel C telling the crowd, "I have to stop because this is such a special moment." Mel B interrupted, "Don't make me cry," as they sang alongside Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell-Horner during the Spice World – 2019 Tour.
The heartfelt performance delighted fans, with one user online exclaiming, "What is happening?!?" Mel B's openness about menopause and her personal life continues to resonate with audiences, highlighting the importance of discussing such experiences.
