Brian May's Health Update: Anita Dobson Reveals Stroke Recovery
Anita Dobson shares Brian May health update after stroke

Anita Dobson has shared a touching and personal update on the health of her husband, Queen guitarist Sir Brian May, following the rock legend's stroke last year.

A 'Little Scary' Health Scare

The 78-year-old music icon revealed in an Instagram post in September 2024 that he had experienced a 'minor stroke', which caused him to lose control of one arm. In a video shared at the time, Sir Brian described the incident as 'a little scary'.

Despite the frightening episode, the guitarist has shown remarkable resilience, regularly posting on social media about various outings, signalling a positive bounce back.

'He's a Good Boy': Adherence to Medical Advice

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, Dobson, 76, opened up about her husband's recovery journey. She lovingly revealed that May has been meticulously following his medical regime since the health scare.

'He takes his tablets, does his exercises. He's a good boy,' the former EastEnders actress said.

When asked if she ever needs to remind him, she added with a mix of affection and seriousness, 'Sometimes with the tablets. I'm not often dictatorial but it's important, because it's his life.'

A Devoted Partnership Through Trials

Dobson and May first met in the late 1980s and have been married for nearly 25 years, with their silver wedding anniversary approaching later this month.

Their relationship, which Dobson jokingly describes as mismatched—'He's a genius and I make the tea'—is built on a foundation of deep devotion. She serves as a stepmother to May's three children from his first marriage.

The couple has faced numerous challenges together, from the pressures of fame to significant personal losses. In 2021, their Kensington home was devastated by a sewage flood that ruined precious belongings, leading them to relocate to a 200-acre property in Surrey.

For Dobson, a true Londoner, the move to the countryside was a major adjustment. For May, however, it was a dream come true. 'He didn't even go into the house, just fell in love with the trees, the flowers, the grass, the lake,' Dobson recalled. 'His face said it all. I have never seen a man happier.'

Despite his recent health troubles, May's spirit remains undimmed. Dobson glowingly recalled his surprise appearance at the Proms last summer, saying, 'Wasn't it fabulous? One of his finest moments... you fall in love with the man all over again.'

Meanwhile, Anita Dobson herself made a spectacular return to EastEnders for the BBC soap's 40th anniversary, reprising her iconic role as Queen Vic landlady Angie Watts.
