Gavin & Stacey's Mathew Horne Expecting Second Child, Reveals Tribute to Late Mum
Mathew Horne Expecting Baby Girl, Names Tribute to Mother

Gavin & Stacey actor Mathew Horne has shared joyous personal news, announcing that he and his wife Celina Bassili are expecting their second child together.

A Daughter Arriving in March

The couple, who are already parents to a young son, revealed they are set to welcome a baby girl this coming March. Horne made the announcement during an appearance on Gyles Brandreth's Rosebud podcast, where he opened up about this new chapter for his family.

The actor confirmed the baby's due date is in March 2024. Fellow podcast host Brandreth was quick to note the infant's future star sign, exclaiming, "She's going to be a Piscean, you win every prize in life. You're so lucky." Horne happily agreed with the sentiment.

A Sweet Nod to Family History

In a particularly touching reveal, Mathew Horne explained that his daughter will carry a special connection to his late mother. The baby's middle name will be "Joy," which was also his mother's middle name.

"Joy was my mother's middle name, and it will be the middle name of my daughter, who is due in March," the actor shared, creating a beautiful familial tribute for the newest member of their family.

Keeping Family Life Private

Mathew and Celina, who married in September 2021, have previously been very private about their family. They welcomed their first child, a son, shortly after their wedding but chose to keep the news from the public for nearly three years, only confirming it in 2024.

A source close to the actor told The Sun, "Mathew is a brilliant dad and he and Celina love being parents." The insider added that Celina's brother has a son of a similar age and the cousins enjoy spending time together.

Despite his fame from the hit BBC sitcom, Horne prefers to keep his personal life away from the spotlight. However, his Gavin & Stacey co-stars, including James Corden and Joanna Page, have been aware of his journey into fatherhood. The source suggested that with the cast reuniting for the upcoming Christmas special, conversations are likely to be dominated by talk of their children.

The arrival of their daughter in March marks a new and joyful expansion for Horne and Bassili's family, blending happy anticipation with a heartfelt nod to the past.
