Chef's 'Liquid Gold' Method Transforms Bacon Grease Into Culinary Treasure
Chef's 'Liquid Gold' Method for Bacon Grease

If you relish a bacon sandwich but loathe dealing with the leftover grease, a culinary expert has unveiled a brilliant solution that transforms this byproduct into what he calls "liquid gold." Chef and TikTok sensation Ian Fujimoto, who boasts 1.5 million followers on the platform, shares recipes and kitchen wisdom, including a clever method for preserving bacon fat to elevate your cooking.

The Versatility of Bacon Fat

In a recent post, Fujimoto highlighted bacon fat as a highly celebrated ingredient in many kitchens, noting its ability to add depth and a unique, smoky flavour to a variety of dishes. He explained that this flavourful fat, rendered from bacon, is cherished by both home cooks and professional chefs for its versatility. It can be used for frying, sautéing, or as a flavorful base for sauces, turning ordinary meals into something extraordinary.

How to Create Your Own Liquid Gold

According to Fujimoto, as reported by the Express, the process is surprisingly straightforward. After frying your bacon—whether in a pan or on a tray in the oven—you'll have plenty of rendered fat. Instead of letting it solidify and discarding it, his approach requires just a jar with a lid to create your own stash of liquid gold.

In a TikTok clip, Fujimoto demonstrated the method: start by pouring all the bacon grease into the jar. He acknowledged that there will be charred fragments and residue floating in the grease, but this is not a problem. The key step is to add boiling water in a 1:1 ratio of bacon fat to water.

He advised sealing the jar tightly and swirling it all together. Then, place it in your refrigerator upside down. Once the mixture hardens, you can pour out all the water, which will carry away the nasty bits and gunk. What remains is clean, usable bacon fat, ready to enhance your culinary creations.

This simple purification technique ensures that the bacon fat is free from impurities, making it a sustainable and flavourful addition to your kitchen. By repurposing what might otherwise be waste, you can boost the taste profile of dishes while reducing food waste, all with minimal effort.
