Over Half of Brits Seek Major Lifestyle Overhaul for Better Wellbeing
Brits Want Lifestyle Change for Health and Happiness

A significant majority of British adults are expressing a strong desire to fundamentally alter their daily lives, according to a recent comprehensive survey. More than half of Brits, precisely 51%, are actively seeking to completely change how they live, with a primary focus on enhancing their health and overall wellbeing.

Key Drivers for Lifestyle Transformation

The poll, which involved 2,000 adults, uncovered that among those wanting change, the top priorities include saving money, adopting healthier eating habits, and learning to appreciate the small joys in life. Additional popular goals involve increasing exercise frequency, considering a move to a new home, and even embarking on learning a new language. Some respondents simply aspire to slow down their pace and dedicate more time to reading.

Challenges and Aspirations

Despite these ambitions, the research highlights notable obstacles. While 33% of Brits frequently contemplate making lifestyle adjustments, 38% admit they struggle to modify their established daily routines. Common barriers cited include being trapped in repetitive patterns, financial constraints affecting 27%, and a lack of motivation for 22%.

Nevertheless, an overwhelming 72% of participants believe that making tweaks to their life approach is crucial. Motivations for change are clear: 28% aim to achieve greater happiness, while 19% wish to maximize their daily experiences.

European Lifestyle Inspirations

The study also explored international influences, revealing that Brits are most drawn to adopting aspects of the Italian lifestyle, with 24% favouring it, followed by Spanish at 19% and French at 14%. A spokesperson for Disaronno, the Italian drinks brand that commissioned the research, commented on this trend, noting the appeal of the 'Dolce Vita' way of life.

"It's hard to beat the 'Dolce Vita' way of life," the spokesperson said. "It's interesting to see how much people are open to altering their day-to-day lives and take different characteristics from other countries."

Reasons for Adopting European Lifestyles

Top reasons for wanting to embrace European lifestyles include better weather, cited by 42%, a slower pace of life at 40%, and more time spent outdoors at 38%. Other factors driving this interest are dedicating more time to family, mentioned by 32%, enjoying a variety of food options at 32%, and spending time with friends at 14%.

Notably, 67% of respondents expressed a desire to live the 'Dolce Vita' lifestyle, associating it with the best things in life and Italian culture.

Screen Time and Modern Challenges

A critical issue identified in the survey is excessive screen usage. 62% of Brits believe they currently spend too much time looking at screens, with 12% of those seeking lifestyle changes specifically aiming to reduce this habit. This reflects a growing awareness of the need to balance digital engagement with real-world experiences.

Influences on Lifestyle Changes

When it comes to influences prompting a routine switch, friends rank highest at 24%, closely followed by family at 23% and social media at 23%. This underscores the role of personal networks and digital platforms in shaping lifestyle aspirations.

The Disaronno spokesperson added further insight, emphasizing the value of simple pleasures. "It can be the smallest things in life that bring us joy. The Italian culture – of which many Brits are keen to take some inspiration from – prioritises family, treats food as a ritual and encourage simple pleasures without guilt."

"Although we don't have the lovely European weather, we can adopt the dolce side of life. Slowing down on purpose is something the Italian's value and we could learn from, as well as living a 'good life' full of pleasure and indulgence."
