Bathroom mould can be unsightly, but a cleaning guru has revealed that you only need two natural ingredients to keep it at bay. The solution, shared by TikTok creator Chantel Mila, known as Mama Mila, uses white vinegar and clove oil to tackle tough mould and hard water marks.
Simple Homemade Mould Spray
In a recent video, Chantel highlighted her most popular cleaning hacks of 2026, including a DIY mould solution. To make the spray, fill a spray bottle with enough white vinegar for the task, then add 10 to 20 drops of clove oil depending on your scent preference. Spray the mixture onto bathroom surfaces, especially areas with dark mould spots. Leave it to soak, then rinse and wipe with a cloth. This spray also works on hard water marks and limescale on shower glass.
Why It Works
White vinegar is effective due to its acetic acid content, which dissolves dirt, grease, and grime while killing bacteria. Clove oil contains eugenol, a natural phenolic compound with antifungal properties that help clean and remove mould. Michael Golubev, CEO of Mould Busters, told Homes & Gardens: "Vinegar is a versatile, eco-friendly, and effective solution for preventing and treating mould in the home."
Expert Tips for Extra Sparkle
For an extra shine, the team at Drench advised: "Bring vinegar to a boil, then use the warm vinegar to wipe down the shower door and walls. Keep them damp by wiping every five to eight minutes for 30 minutes. Next, dampen a microfibre cloth in vinegar, sprinkle with baking soda, and scrub."
Important Precautions
However, vinegar is not a long-term substitute for mould removal. Ice Cleaning warned that while it combats surface mould, it does not eliminate airborne spores. Additionally, avoid using vinegar on concrete, leather, stone, or wood, as it may cause damage.
