In a fiery exchange on his late-night talk show, Bravo television host Andy Cohen launched a scathing attack on popular podcaster Joe Rogan, labelling him a "f***ing idiot" for endorsing reality television star Spencer Pratt in the Los Angeles mayoral race. The 57-year-old host, known for his candid commentary, made the remarks during Tuesday's episode of Watch What Happens Live, which featured guests Kristin Cavallari and Brody Jenner.
Reality Stars Weigh In on Political Upstart
The discussion ignited when Cavallari was prompted to share her reaction to learning that Pratt, famed from MTV's The Hills, is challenging incumbent mayor Karen Bass. "If anyone is qualified to be mayor of L.A.," Cohen remarked sarcastically, with Cavallari quickly adding, "Absolutely." Cavallari expressed initial shock but praised Pratt's knowledge and eloquence, noting, "But if you actually listen to him, he knows his stuff. He's very well-spoken." She highlighted the personal connection, explaining that Jenner's endorsement was expected as Pratt is his best friend.
Empathy for Fire Victims Fuels Support
Cavallari elaborated on the local context, emphasising the impact of recent wildfires. "These people lost their homes, they lost everything and so people are fired up and I have empathy for them," she said. "I'm here for it and I honestly could see him winning. People in California really are excited about him." Cohen concurred, stating Pratt "seems like he's going to win," and Cavallari agreed, citing his momentum compared to Bass's perceived lack of support.
Cohen's Blunt Critique of Rogan
The conversation turned contentious when Cavallari mentioned Rogan's recent endorsement of Pratt. Cohen erupted, "Oh, Rogan, the great mind of the universe. Joe f***ing Rogan. What a f***ing idiot. Sorry." When pressed to explain his disdain for the UFC commentator, Cohen simply stated, "I listen to what he says, that's all. I listen to what he says, I made my own opinion." This outburst underscores the deepening cultural divides in American media and politics.
Cavallari's Podcast Praise for Pratt
Earlier on Tuesday, Cavallari further endorsed Pratt on her own podcast, Let's Be Honest, calling his candidacy "f***ing genius." She argued that all politicians are corrupt and Pratt, as a "real person," would expose wrongdoing. "He is going to actually get s*** done," she asserted, linking his motivation to losing his home in the January 2025 Los Angeles fires, which also destroyed his parents' house.
Pratt's Campaign Gains Traction
Pratt announced his mayoral bid on January 7, the anniversary of the Palisades and Eaton Fires, criticising the city's "fundamentally broken" system. He has since appeared on Rogan's podcast, where Rogan endorsed him, saying, "If I lived in Los Angeles, no question whatsoever, I would vote for you," despite being ineligible to vote from Texas. Pratt later shared a photo with Rogan on social media, captioning it, "My goal is to make LA so awesome, we can win him back from Texas."
Recent polling indicates Pratt is gradually closing the gap with Mayor Bass. His campaign has also sparked controversy, such as his retort to former co-star Lauren Conrad, who avoided endorsing him by citing her residence in Orange County. Pratt responded on social media, implying she would support him if faced with LA's urban challenges.
As the race heats up, Cohen's blunt criticism highlights the intersection of celebrity, media, and politics, with Pratt's unorthodox campaign continuing to attract attention and debate across the entertainment and political spheres.
